The following function cannot be used because the scanner is not available

First of all make sure that you've correctly connected the scanner to your computer, and that the device is powered on. Then check if the scanner software and drivers are installed, to check these please follow the steps given below:
-Press 'Windows logo key' + 'R' key on the keyboard.
-'Run box' window will open up and type in 'Control Panel' then hit 'Enter'.
-Look for 'Programs and Features' and select it.
-Now check if 'Scanner' is listed in the installed programs list.

If the scanner is not listed there, then you have to install the software and drivers from the scanners manufactures website.

In case if scanner is listed in the programs and connected to the computer, try updating scanner drivers from device manger. To do these please follow the steps given below:
-Press 'Windows logo key' + 'R' key on the keyboard.
-'Run box' window will open up and type in 'devmgmt.msc' then hit 'Enter'.
-Look for the 'Scanner' and click on it.
-Select 'Driver Tab' and then click on 'Update Driver'.

5. check for cracks on scanner, ie. loss of vacuum.

Unfortunately, there is no compatible driver for win 7. THe Mustek support center says the following:
Scanners designed to work with older versions of Windows may not function properly after upgrading your computer's operating system.
If Windows® 7 is not listed on the product driver download page for a specific product, no support is offered for Windows® 7. Newer scanner products available will have support for Windows® 7.

If you believe the scanner is still functional it is possible it won't operate with Windows 7. I have a laser printer like that and no updated drivers are available and in spite of using the Windows Compatibility function the printer is now useless.

You could try uninstalling the scanner driver and restarting the computer and then when you reconnect your scanner a "found new hardware" wizard should appear which can search the internet for a suitable driver.

You could also try using the Windows Compatibility function that in theory allows earlier software to be used - mostly unsuccessfully in my experience.

Use Windows XP mode feature available for windows 7. Using this you can install your XP drivers for the all in one device you have.

In the software or function selections there should be a reset to factory settings. That worked for my scanner. Also, if that does not work try callig the manufactorer for technical help.

Did you install the correct driver including the scan driver? The drivers are available at the Samsung Site: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCX-4100 . Click on the Driver tab for most or the Software Tab for the SmarThru4 program. Make sure to get the correct version for the OS on the office computer. Generic OS drivers often only run the printe, not the scanner. Uninstall the generic driver before attempting to nstall the Samsung driver.

Next check the data cable. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer and can fail when the printer works.

There are no drivers for this scanner (to use with Vista). This scanner is outdated and Epson has discontinued their support for this scanner.
New technologies emerge with time and this causes old ones to become obsolete. There are new scanners available with much better resolution and scanning speed.
I understand that this scanner has, and maybe still, doing your job but please try to understand that only the original equipment manufacturer can provide the drivers; if they can't probably no one else can.
However, drivers for Win XP are available for free download. Please click here to visit the download website.
Vista has a large database of generic drivers. Maybe it will pick this scanner up and install so you are still be able to do basic scanning.

this is an user manual ..complete edition ...save it ...and read it well .cause if you can print it means that isnt a driver problem ...but just your skils with it ...I hope this will in-light ya ...
