If it's the red acer 3200 then the motherboard needs to be removed from it's base plastic to get at it I'm afraid.

To Guest of Solution #2:

If you mean that you have a compaq v300 then try this location for a downloadable manual. Use it to remove your "real time clock" battery. Let the computer set for a while before reconnecting, and see if that resets your password. Failing that you can try some of the boot recovery disks to recover or erase your bios password. I have spotmau.com's power suite (A lovely piece of VPN software from work took out my USB drivers -- I have a USB keyboard and mouse). Spotmau advertises that they can reset bios passwords, but I haven't had to try this. You can also try 'Ultimate Boot CD for Windows' (www.ubcd4win.com) which is also a recovery disk program (freeware, I believe) that has a CMOS password recovery application. You'll have to compile this program first, but it has a lot of other recovery/backup apps in it. I'm sure there are others, also. After you get your CMOS password reset be sure to print it on a label and put it on your laptop so you don't lose it again!;-)

You have to take up the keyboard , take the three screws in front on the under side and the two screws that hold the touchpad section out. then push the top section foward. the cmos battery is taped to the front of the case

If you're posting in the right area which most are not, and it's the KDS, you have to remove all the screws from the bottom of the laptop and carefully open the back side (slightly) under where the monitor connects. You will see it in the corner. Be very careful not to disturb the speaker wires by opening the bottom too far. If you do this right, it's easy, however if you open the case too far, you'll lose parts, like the pcmcia covers, speaker connections, etc. Just be real careful opening it and all should be fine.

To change the CMOS battery you must first remove the keyboard, this is done by two screws that are under the body of the notebook toward the center, and remove the power battery, you will see a small flat battery in a yellow case screwed to the case of the notebook. You will need to unscrew that as well, then, under the case, where you just removed the keyboard, on the motherboard, you will see where the CMOS battery is located and connected. You will need to get a small flat screwdriver into this connector to seperate it. Once you have it out, and have a new one, putting it back in is a little tricky. I used a tweezers to guide the wire connector back on to the posts and then the flat screwdriver again to push it hard into place. Then, re-assemble the keyboard back into place and return your regular battery to it's spot. You can find information about keyboard removal here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZPM3F There is no tape involved. Hope that helps.

The cmos battery is located just above the touch pad underneath the keyboard. Just a tip, you have to pull the entire computer apart.

Make sure all power is off/disconnected and batteries removed before attempting anything like changing parts. The Sager NP5620 battery is in a easy to get-to location, but changing it is a pain. Remove your main battery, you'll see a small square of silver plastic in the middle of the compartment. The CMOS battery is underneath of this square. The battery's connector is on the mainboard, just below the area of the "ALT" key. Unfortunatly, you have to dissasemble the laptop to change it. That's beyond the scope of this answer. There are a few resources out there for dissasembling your 5620, search online for them. Taking this sucker apart is no easy task, so be careful, and if you're not sure, don't do it!

I have a suggestion, although not a do-it-yourself solution. I wanted to swap-out the CMOS battery on my Libretto 50. I opened the unit, found the battery, quickly discovered I have no talent whatever for fixing notebook computers, and ultimately turned the little machine into garbage. I vowed that next time I would take it to a nearby shop which specializes in notebooks. I recently bought a Libretto 110CT. At the moment, I have the 32MB expansion memory on order. Its supposed to be an easy-to-install item, but I plan to spend a little bit extra and let somebody else sweat over the teeny-tiny innards of this incredible machine. Best of luck.

Hi, Cmos battery is located under keyboard. To remove keyboard remove two screws located under memory expansion cover and move 4 hooks between keys ESC-F1,F4-F5, F8,F9 and F12-delete.

In the old days they would hid the CMOS battery where most users wouldn?t dare go. Now days they are usually in easy to access locations. Having said that I don?t know where your?s is located, I even went to the Compaq site and was unable to fine any information. I?ll give you a few places to look that shouldn?t be too hard to get to: -Flip over the laptop and you will probably see several small access panels held in place with a screw. These are the most likely candidates. Be careful of the contents of these, memory and add on cards are usually installed in these accesses and casual poking with tools or fingers (static discharge) can damage them. -Remove your battery pack and look inside the cavity for the battery.

I was working on another Dell laptop problem today and found out I have access to Dells Service Manuals!!!! Anyway here are the instructions for changing what they refer to as the "reserve battery":

    -Remove the hard drive.
    -Remove the keyboard.
-Disconnect the reserve battery cable from the system board connector.
-Pry the reserve battery free from the system board. The reserve battery is attached to the system board with a piece of adhesive tape.
-Remove any remnants of the adhesive tape from the EMI shield.

Let us know if you need any additional help.

SOURCE: CMOS

The cmos on the Pavilion is going to be in one of three places, and will be one of two styles of battery. The cmos style will be either a large watch type battery about the size of a nickle located in a slot on the mother board, or in a yellow or greenish pouch with two wires leading to a connector, located under a cover on the bottom of the machine, or under the keyboard.
