I have a kawasaki gpz 750 1983, i have taken the carbs apart and cleaned them new gasgets , re fitted them to the bike ,the bike will not fire it seems that the petrol is not getting through, i have checked the float level and that is ok i am getting a spark at the plug, i have put a bit of petrol in the cylinder head ,and then it fires up. there is no listing for a gpz 750 or zx 750 1983. manny thaks paul.

Check the carb diaphrams for any tears/pinholes? (They are on the top of the carbs) Have you reconnected the breather from the tank? Is fuel getting past fuel tap? Sometimes the vent in the fuel cap can get blocked with crud and create a vacuum which stops fuel flowing.

What you are saying is the engine runs when there is a good supply of petrol by top feeding the carbs but not when fed from the tank.
That suggests the supply from the tank is restricted in some way.

Is the bike flooding out then? Smell gas?
One possibility could be, sticking carb floats . It has been known for the composit floats to become porous and soak in fuel which makes them too heavy to float . Its a lonng shot but if you have to strip the carbs just check .
Good luck.

Engine surging/hunting on a 1996 GPZ 500 between 5 and 6 thousand revs. OK up to and beyond that rev range. Help please!

check carbs and throttle, clean float chamber. Jets are factory fixed so try second hand carbs rather than mess with these

Kawazaki gpz carbs will fire when you put petrol directlt in them

Check the routing of the wires under the tank. Also check the wire connections. It sounds like the installation of the tank is pulling on the wires causing a momentary disconnection of a power wire.
Alternate to that, are the spark plug wires grounding against the tank?

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Gpz1000rx mis-fire

This might sound too obvious, and you've probably already tried it, but have you stripped and cleaned the carbs yet? could be worth a go, or you could try draining and balancing them first.
