It fills with water then shut off. So if we hit the lid a few times and turn the dial our selfs it will kick back on.

The most likely failure is the lid switch. It can be found as item 11 here:
for model LSQ9564J (Q0)

UNIT UN-PLUGGED

To gain access to the lid switch you lift the top by releasing the spring lips with a putty knife. The are about 4 inches in from the front corners. Press in and lift the top from the center front of the tub access. You have to release both clips to lift the top. Then
lift it straight up pivoting from rear.

Then it is a matter of removing the lid switch mounting screws, disconnecting the connector and replacing the switch.

Closer view of replacement switch:

This should get things back to normal. I would use a meter and check for continuity on the old switch before ordering a replacement. The old switch could just have been loose or the lid switch actuation tab bent down too far. (Lift it up and test lid)

KITCHENAID KAW750JQ4: WASHES FINE, WILL NOT DRAIN AND SPIN. IS THIS THE LID SWITCH OR SOMETHING ELSE?

If this a Whirlpool manufactured top loader, the most common cause of the problem you just described is a lid switch malfunction or lid strike (actuator) problem. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, stopping right after the wash cycle, not advancing to rinse or spin cycles, and a wash tub that will not drain.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike" or "Actuator") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because it does NOT have a lid strike (actuator) and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This type of switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator rod by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

If the model number is correct, the lid switch part number is 8054980 and costs about $20. The switch is located under the top panel adjacent to the right lid hinge. The hinge will have a rod that acts as the actuator.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. This is a very simple repair that you can easily perform without the assistance of a repairman.

If this advice does not help you enough, repairclinic.com has a Repair Manual you can order to assist you with all your repairs. The part number is 1170635 and is priced at about $20.

Searspartsdirect.com also has a repair manual for about the same price. Part number 4314044L. I hope this information is helpful to you.

How do you take the top lid off of kitchenaid washing machine model # KAWS777EQUO and replace lid switch?

There are two clamps under the control console. About 1 inch from the edge on both sides. Use a putty knife and slide under to be able to lift console up and tilt back. UNPLUG washer and you will see 1 gold clamp on each side and use a screw driver and pop them out. You will also see a little white quick connect unplug it and til your entire cabinet forward. You can take the entire cabinet off and access the lid switch. When you put the cabinet back on make sure the sides align and u dont crimp the clear hose where the cabinet indents in. Make sure to reconnect your lid switch and put gold clamps back.

Replace lid switch

You will need to not only remove the control panel, but you will also need to remove the washer casing from the frame in order to acces the switch. It sounds intimidating, but really isn't that difficult to do. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Your washer is manufactured by Whirpool, so these instructions will apply. Most commonly, the lid switch is located under the washer casing along the right hand side of the lid. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, your switch is under the washer casing near the right lid hinge. The mounting screw(s) and ground connector are under the operator console. For clarification, you can refer to pcappliancerepair.com for some excellent exploded view diagrams to assist you. The lid switch is located under the "Top and Cabinet Parts" heading.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know.

Source for replacement parts?

The lid gasket is not available as a separate piece - an entire lid would have to be purchased. Kitchenaid still has inventory on replacement lids. If you'd like to order, you may call Kitchenaid Customer Service. Their toll-free telephone number is:

1.800.541.6390.

If you would prefer, you may also try MENDINGSHED.COM. They carry a large inventory of Kitchenaid parts, even if the model is out of manufacture.
