This solution will also work for GoldStar DVR1000! make sure no DVD or tapes are in the player press and hold stop button and it releases you from Progressive scan mode. After searching the web for hours for this model got desperate and was trying fixes for other brands and models, this one worked. Thanks koolanit

SOURCE: SD-K530SU - Turning Off Progressive Scan Mode

Sure that's easy, I read this in the manual:

http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/ConsumerProductSupport/Manual/dvd/SDK530.pdf
(Page 18 - Progressive Scan Section)

All you have to do is:

1. Remove the disc in the DVD/VCR.

2. Press and hold the STOP button for 5 seconds before releasing it. (Note that this is the stop button which is physically on the player.)

And that should pull you out of Progressive Scan Mode.

SOURCE: Not able to turn off Progressive scan feature-sony dvp nc85h

Are you pressing the Progressive Scan button on the front of the Player? You need to look at the BACK of the Player. There is a manual switch just below the words "LINE OUT". This needs to be moved to the left where it says "Normal"

Try this please!

Make sure red is matched up to red, green to green, and blue to blue first. Then, try a different set of YPbPr (component) cables if you have a set available. If it still shows up red, then read this:

Progressive Scan

On 12/29/2007 at 1135pm, I found the solution for yours and my problem. Here is what you need to do. I did the same thing and couldnt get video. If you set Progressive Scan to ON in error , you must reset the unit. Play your dvd, then press "STOP" to stop the disc from playing. Hold the stop button on the dvd player for approx 5 seconds before releasing it. The video output will be restored to the standard setting, and a picture will once again be visible on a conventional analog TV or monitor.

It is not clear where you say input is from cable, do you mean the Scart input to your Sony TV? Do not use Progressive scan(p), as this is not interlaced. The normal TV requires an interlaced(i) picture of 50 half frames per second giving 25 complete pictures per second to reduce flicker. Some TVs and projectors and all monitors accept Progressive scan.
