I have just looked at a similar machine RDXV60, with precisely this problem. When playing, rewinding or fast forwarding VHS, the machine is OK for a few seconds and then switches off, but is fine if paused during play. This was due to inadequate pulses from the take-up spool rotation sensor, maybe due to insufficient (IR) light reaching it, or to reduced sensitivity. The problem was fixed by changing the 33K pull-up resistor (R518?) for this sensor to a 75K one. Specialist knowledge is required to correctly and safely carry out this fix. Maybe different for DVR660.

SOURCE: I cannot get it to record a vhs tape to a dvd.

You need a remote to setup the dvd record and vcr record. Then you have to do dvd initialization perhaps before you can dub from tape to dvd?

8mm JVC tapes put into a VHS tape that will play on a combined TV and VCR. Please, please, I need your help! Found tapes from 15 years ago.

You need an 8mm player or the camera that recorded the tapes. Connect the video and audio from the 8mm player/camera to a VHS recorder. Put the 8mm on play and the VHS on record.

My dvd/vhs player has stopped playing dvds. The light goes on when I switch it to dvd put instead of playing the disk it switches back to vhs. It will play vhs tapes. My TV is an Emerson LC320 EMX and...

The dvd player has lost ability to focus on disks and will not play them. It needs to be replaced. Check it out - if it is not proprietary and appears to be a unit like what you have in a desktop computer you can try putting one of those in there.

How to record a VHS tape to a DVD disc

Read your manual first to make sure the unit will do this.If it does chances are it won't record unless it has a decoder built in.Most VHS tapes have macrovision protection that prevents you from copying them.It will however, record homemade VHS tapes. There are decoders out there you can buy to enable you to copy VHS tapes.

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

Tapes not playing

Hey do the tapes play at all? sometimes some tapes recorded
on other machines won't play on others. maybe you need to adjust the tracking on the VCR you are playing it on. If the tape
was recorded on a VCR that is misaligned it might not play back
on another VCR. Also the tape may have been recorded on a
super VHS VCR in et (extended definition) mode if so they won't play on just any VCR. If the picture looks scrambled like a
premium channel on analog cable then it's probably recorded in et.
and if its recorded on super VHS tape it may eject out of your VCR.
They don't make these S-VHS vcrs anymore but people still
have them around. There is also Digital VHS they're not
compatible with VHS either. A VHS recorded in et mode will
play on some more expensive vcrs it should say so on the box
or instructions.

VHS tapes are black and white

The tapes are B/W or one of the playback video heads is not making contact with the tape. The video head may need to be adjusted. You can take it in to get it fixed or buy a new one. The unit today is worth around $25-$30.
