Hello, William - I hope you kept the user manual which came with the hand blender. The hand blender is probably still under warranty. If you do have the manual, look for the information about the warranty, so the Braun company can provide you with a replacement or cover the cost of authorized repair.

junk it there are brands on the market that make smoothies cheaper that the repairing cost of the burnt out unit

That model number is for a juicer and not a tool. What you should do is take a picture of the screw and go to a hardware store etc and show them. They can recommend a tool to remove it. Lowes, Home Depot, Ace etc.

I bought an Oster 6 cup glass and it works perfectly on the Starbucks Barista blender. It has to be the 6 cup NOT the 5 cup or the blade mechanism won't fit. the 6 cup screws right on your old blade base and it was $10 new on Ebay including free shipping.

1. Remove two small plugs on top, digging a wood screw into the soft plastic. They cover two screws.
2. Remove the screws.
3. Remove the cover.
4. Remove two screws holding the motor housing to the foot.
