Error code F53 on Miele is a speed sensor fault.
It has detected the drum speed to be wrong at some point and has indicated the problem to you.
Have you tried unplugging it. That will reset the computer.
If it's not coming up again after unplugging it, I'd not worry about it.
If it is coming up every time you use it, then you have either a faulty sensor, motor or pcb.
Miele are extremely secretive with information on their appliances and this makes it hard to diagnose accurately faults on them.
I had the same fault on my W1213 washer and replaced my motor brushes. This fixed the unit and it went right back to work, but a few months later another F53 error stopped it again. This time the motor and tach sensor were just fine and I tracked down the F53 error in the main control board, which turned out to have a faulty relay module (DPDT). This relay controlled the motors spin direction, and had stopped working properly. To diagnose, I ran the U6 test for the motor, and noticed that it would spin in one direction, but sat idle when trying to spin the opposite direction.
I believe that as the original brushes wore out, they caused arching in the relay contacts and caused them to fail early. Replacing this relay with a new one fixed the washer yet one more time and it is now back in business.
Hi Alex, I have the W1213 and have the exact same problem. What is the relay module called in the technical manual? I did a search for relay and it only shows heater relay. For this DPDT relay, may I ask where you purchased it from? (directly from Miele or a 3rd party?) If you have the P/N that would be of great help. By the way, was it hard to install? Thanks!
