There is nothing you can do with this problem. As long as you’re disc are clean from scratches and finger print there’s nothing more you can do to player.
The hull is covered with plastic. Peel the plastic off, uncover the vents and it will stop overheating.
This could be so many things:
1. Loose or bad cable from the laser.
2. Bad laser.
3. Bad stepping motor
4. Bad motor control
5. Lubrication issue or rail alignment.
The only one you can control is #5. What is the model number?

This is a common problem on CD and DVD players.
Altini is correct to a point. You can try taking the top case off,
removing the DVD drive and taking the top off of the drive. Then use a
q-tip on the laser lense. I use a little squirt of windex on the q-tip.
Gently clean the lense even if it doesn't look dirty. Make sure you
very gently work the lense up and down through it's travel. This will
make sure no dust or dirt is interfering with the lense focusing.
Reassemble and try your movies again. This is a 50 50 proposition. If
you still have the same problem, the mechanism has likely gone bad.
Time for a new DVD player.
