You probably need to replace the the ignitor. Even though it glows red does not mean that it is working propery. If it does not draw at least 3.5 amps the gas valve will not open. This can be check with a amp meter.

SOURCE: Maytag oven doesn't light, broiler comes on instead
On some gas ranges, the broiler comes on with the bake selection during warm up. This allows the oven to preheat much quicker. More than likely, the control pad is functioning properly and your bake igniter is bad. Igniters become weak with age and eventually go bad. Since the bake feature is used more frequently, it typically goes bad more often. The following link provides you with some guidance on oven igniters:

Remember: just because an igniter glows, does not mean it is good. If they become weak, they will not draw the required current potential to open the gas safety valve.
If you determine the igniter to be bad, you can obtain a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and go to the "Gas Controls" heading and look for item number 14 (part number 74007498). If the igniter plug does not match the plug you have on your oven, the instructions will guide you to cut the wires and splice the ends together. There should be ceramic wire lugs that come with the igniter kit. CAUTION: Make sure you only use the ceramic (heat resistant) lugs that come with the kit. Splicing with regular wire lugs or electrical tape will melt due to the heat. Additionally, make sure you UNPLUG the appliance before replacing the igniter. Live voltage potentials are still present with the range shut off.
I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.
SOURCE: 5Ab error code for a Maytag Electric Range
You may have inadvertently set your range to "Sabbath Mode". The display actually reads "SAB". This is a feature that allows the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.
To turn the Sabbath Mode on/off on most Maytag models you simply press and hold the "Clock" button for 5 seconds. These instructions should be in your owner's manual.
If this does not correct the problem for you, please post back with your model number (located on the back of the range or around the oven door opening) so that I may be able to assist you better. I hope this helps you.
SOURCE: gas leaks into oven when i turn on the broiler
You have what we called delay ignition. may be the broiler ignitor too far away from broiler, partially clogged broiler orifice or bad ignitor, I"ll check the Amperage on the ignitor, it should draw above 3 AMPs, if not, then I'll change the ignitor first then check the orifice. Have fun.
