Just buy a new remote. Your phone doesn't have an infrared transmitter and it in not a wifi connected set so won't work with an app. $15 on eBay!

There really is not way around this: someone is going to have to open the unit and see what has happened, it will range from the disc being out of position or jammed to a issue with the mechanism being out of alignment or damaged.

Try the toshiba site or Google the model number with "remote" to try to locate an original not a universal.....

The problem with almost all of these combo units is only the original remote will work--in many cases this type unit even with the Toshiba name on it was made for them by another company.

If you have the original remote use it or if lost etc replace it (they are cheap)

Yep, thats the way power outages work. They usually destroy your electronics which is why you have to unplug just about everything. The tv needs repair.

This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?
