Randy, after you check all fuses/relays and check all the wires and connections for pinched/damage and corrosion, kick stand safety switch if it has one, etc., if still getting the same click, it is time to remove starter, have it tested or just replaced.
Check battery must fully charged, check starter fuse and relay
Check 12 volt wire from ignition switch to starter relay in the fuse box ,then check 12 volt wire from starter relay to starter motor solenoid if if it's everything is ok then change the starter.
it could be your starter relay itself.they fault every now and then.make sure its not the starter solenoid.if your battery power is down a little the starter will not engage.your battery should read about 12.8 volts or morewhen well charged.check it with a multimeter with engine off.then with engine running it should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts or thereabouts.if the battery is low to begin with, charge it first then try again after battery has rested for an hour or two.if the battery is not charging that may be the problem.if the battery is 12.8 or more it is ok.if you are not getting 13.5-14.5 volts at the battery terminals with the engine running then you may have a problem with the charge wire coming from the regulator,or the regulator itself or the ground/earth wire at regulator or even back at the the stator in the engine case.there should be 2 or maybe 3 wires going into casing depending on your system.
try the battery test first and then see if its charging from regulator.if both of these pass then it is very likely the relay.although do not rule out the possibility that the solenoid on the starter could be sticking a bit.hope i have been of some help.
Follow the positive battery cable. It's usually mounted pretty close to the battery box, under the seat. The positive battery cable goes directly to it.
Initially, have the battery externally charged and/or load tested.
Offhand, with a freshly charged or new battery and clicking sound persist, then possibly a faulty starter relay. To confirm, temporarily jump the 2 big terminals of the starter relay. If the starter motor spins, then the fault on the relay has been confirmed. Should still be a no go, then a likely concern with the starter motor or more particularly, the carbon brushes and/or the commutator segments.
Measure the voltage on the starter side of the solenoid with the kill switch ON and the key ON and the starter switch PRESSED - trans in N. IF it is not 12 volts, it may be faulty.
Check to see that you have power to your starter switch. Double check your sidestand safety switch. I would expect the bike to NOT start if the sidestand switch was malfunctioning but it is possible this bike could be wired to only interrupt the starter.
To see if you have power and ground to your starter switch, use a multi meter. Take the switch apart and check for 12v on one of the leads. Then on the other lead check to see that you have a ground connection. Finally, check the switch itself for continuity.
check starter solenoid.see if getting power to starter side when pressing button .if yes check if power to starter w/ test light when pressing button.if power there check starter, also motor, will it turn manually or is it seized.if no power to starter side of solenoid, jump across solenoid posts w/ a large screwdriver -motor will probaly turn over,w/ key on.if small wire to solenoid has power when pressing start, solenoid bad,if no power, wiring or start button bad.
