Transmission or clutch slipping

Hello, I have a 2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660. It has about 400 hours on it and the transmission is slipping at speeds above 10MPH. It seems to have plenty of take off power but slips easily when trying to accelerate after it is rolling. I know this has a V-belt drive unit but know little about them. Does this type of drive also use clutch plates that coulod be slipping?
I typically do my own repairs but I'm not sure exactly where to begin.
Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated.

Dear grizzly friend, I too have a 660 and it slips as well. I have followed the manual in taking pulley cover off. There are no ridges on sheath(maybe your problem). So, I am thinking one of two scenarios. The centrifugal weights in pulley are gummed up, or my clutch plates are gummed up as well(I believe they work on similar principle) Also, since I had a gas leak into crankcase, I am
thinking that my plates could be glazed which means I will have to change my clutch unit. I hope that you find out a solution to your problem----let me know as I am looking for the same solution!

Here I am nearly 9 years later, with the same four wheeler, and the problem has not re-occurred since I replaced the clutch unit that had been glazed over due to the dripping of gas into the crankcase from the carburetor. I have added a inline fuel shut off solenoid, and problem has not happened again

Fix trouble code P0894 on 2004 h2 hummer

The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the difference between engine speed and transmission output speed. In D3 drive range with the TCC engaged, the engine speed should closely match the transmission output speed. In D4 drive range, with the TCC engaged, the TCC slip speed should be -20 to +50 RPM.
When the PCM detects excessive TCC slip when the TCC should be engaged, then DTC P0894 sets. DTC P0894 is a type B DTC.

TCC - torque converter clutch
Diagnostic Aids
• Bronze material found in the transmission oil pan may indicate stator shaft bushing wear. If bushing wear is suspected, inspect the stator shaft and the input, turbine, shaft for damage.
• Refer to Symptoms - Automatic Transmission for more information.
Do you have a scan tool ?

Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Important: Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Freeze Frame and Failure Records from the PCM.
Record the DTC Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
Clear the DTC.
Important: It may be necessary to allow multiple TCC cycles to occur in order to verify a slipping condition. It may also be necessary to ensure the transmission is warm before performing this step.
Drive the vehicle in 4th gear with the TCC commanded ON.
Does the scan tool TCC Slip Speed measure within the specified range for 7 seconds?
130-800 RPM

Inspect the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid valve for the following conditions:
• Internal malfunction, such as sediment or damage
• Damaged seals
• Refer to Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, and Wiring Harness .
Inspect the torque converter clutch pulse width modulation (TCC PWM) solenoid valve for the following conditions:
• Internal malfunction, such as sediment or damage
• Damaged seals
• Refer to Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, and Wiring Harness .
Did you find and correct the condition?

I just got a 2004 tiburon 6 speed 4 cyl why is it when i shift when pressing on the gas the rmps go up but dont pick up speed ??? help

This is bad news either way, whether you have a manual or automatic transmission. The transmission is slipping if it an automatic or your clutch is worn out if it is a manual transmission.
Assuming you have an automatic, is may be the transmission is slipping because the transmission is not quickly shifting gears.

If you transmission shifts using hydraulic valves, there may be hope. You can add a can of SeaFoam transmission oil or similar product that helps stuck valves move. If you have solenoids used to shift the transmission based on motor RPM and pressure sensors, you need to go to a transmission shop to run more complicated tests. In that case, go to someone who is familiar with your vehicle model.

Why does my Yamaha grizzly 700 engine brake fail going down hill

If you're in to low a gear, the clutch might be slipping under stress from high revs. You might need a new clutch or stronger springs. Try using a higher gear and use 50% braking.

600 shadow transmission slipping. What is the cause

If the transmission is slipping then you will need to replace your clutch plates. you don't say how old the bike is, so this may not be the case. But you should check the adjustment of the clutch lever anyway.

I would be checking the throwout bearing. But, if the clutch isn't slipping, maybe leave it for now?

If you put it in 5th gear, let out the clutch with handbrake applied and it stalls--the clutch isn't slipping for sure.

No, and add some Trans X slip stop and leak stop, sold by K and W. about 16 ounces, this really helped my Forester, as a lot of them have this issue with the clutch pack in the tranny. sold at most auto parts stores and Wal Mart. take care.
