How cold? Most rechargeable batteries will not work properly much below 0 degrees Centigrade. If it is much colder than that, it is likely that the batteries are shorting out and the camera is not getting enough current.

Try keeping the camera warm until you use it (under clothing, in a pocket etc.)

I have an older Goodman mini-split A/C unit, Model# MSG18HRN1W. On colder nights, at or just before freezing, in heat mode, the unit shuts itself of, and all 4 lights blink repeatedly.

It is meant to shut off when it gets so cold that the unit cannot make warm air from outside air that is too cold. When it reaches that situation, it should be switching the heating effort to the built in resistance heating. In other words, it gives up and directs that many KW of electricity go straight into heater coils, like and electrical dryer has. It is very expensive to heat this way. Most whole house heat pumps can't handle cold air. The newer mini split ductless heat pumps lower can work with outside air temperature below freezing depending on the manufacturer.

The camera keeps turning on and off by itself

When your camera shuts off by itself, it has detected an error inside. Could be hardware failure, but also a software problem. So no use of switching it on again. Please when it shuts down again, wait till no memory access light is burning or flashing. Then remove the battery. The best thing before reinserting the battery is to charge it first. But if you are sure the battery is fully charged, wait a few moment before you reinsert the battery. Then when you have put in the battery switch on the camera.
When you remove the battery for a few moments, the camera will have a "cold" start. So the program that makes your camera work, start from scratch. As long as the battery is in the camera, the program in the memory does not change. That is why you should the battery.
If your camera has a hardware failure it won't be solved when you remove and reinsert the battery. If the switching on and of occurs while zooming, it could be the lens mechanism has a problem with the gear or motor. If this happens, you should visit a service centre, or buy a new camera.
Then it could be the battery is charged, but not powerful enough to do all tasks. If the camera detects the voltage is under a certain level, the camera also shuts down. If every time the flash has to charge, or the zoom or AF motor needs to work, the camera shuts down, it could be the battery is on its end of life. But for that you should look on the display. Most cameras do have a battery level indicator.

My Nikon Coolpix s230 flash won't work. It just blinks red in the lower right hand corner. I've tried all the settings and they all won't flash.

If there is a problem with the flash itself or the mainboard connection to the flash it will not charge. If the flash won't charge then it won't go off when you take a picture. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the flash with a good used one and see if that fixes it. If not, then you need to replace the mainboard. Good used parts can usually be found online for cheap; that auction website doesn't pay me to type their name, so I don't, sorry. Hope this helps!

Can we use a Cobra Auto 150S Compact auto/manual flash and slave unit on a Nikon 5000 SLR

As a slave, yes, though you won't get any of the features of a Nikon CLS-compatible flash unit. You would be shooting in manual flash mode. Due to its higher trigger voltage, I would NOT put the unit onto the camera itself.

A red lightning arrow keeps flashing on the screen and the camera isn't doin anything, what can the problem be?

Hi.

A red flashing lightening bolt can mean different things on different camera's. The most common are that you are too far away from the object you want to take a picture of. That the flash on the camera needs to be turned off and that the flash itself is charging up and won't allow a picture to be taken.

Try turning the flash off and see if it will let you take a picture.

Regards.

FLASH WONT TURN ON

You can try cleaning the terminals in the battery compartment with a pencil eraser (a good idea in any case). Otherwise, I suspect hidden damage or fault. If not an expensive unit, replace it.
