Maytag neptune MLG2000AWW does not turn off at end of spin cycle

Maytag neptune washer-washer works normally except at the end of the spin cycle when it should shut off, it does not.(happens in all timer modes) On light stays on, door lock light on, and after a couple of minutes timer will advance and start the wash cycle all over again. I can manually turn off washer. Only other thing I have noticed is after the spin cycle is complete, I turn off the machine manually, it takes several minutes for door to unlock and unlock light to go out.....if I reach in and rock the drum back and forth I can hear water sloshing.

Will order a timer and see if it fixes it. THANKS

  • sewedup Mar 20, 2009

Thank You again for your help. Before I order the timer-since the washer will not turn off on any 'off' position on the the timer dial, is there any way to verify the timer is bad or could the machine control board be the problem not processing the signal from the timer?

  • sewedup Mar 20, 2009

    OK, thanks

OK-I ordered a timer(exact part number replacement) Installed it, no help-same problem. " Washer works normally except when timer gets to any off position, washer does not turn off. It spins normally, after finishing spinning, door locked and ON light never go off. After approx. 3 minutes tub starts filling and cycle starts all over again."??????

D sounds as if your having a timer issue here. not recognizing the end of cycle and entering a new one ( bad timer).. as far as time of unlocking this is normal, theres a wax motor holding the door shut for i believe 3 min's.. and the water sloshing sounds is also normal they use a "water filled" balance ring around the perimeter of tub to help with the overall balance of machine

perahspd if its geting stuckin one position andnot moving that would be apossiblity, but the fact that it moves past a stop point nad begins a new cycle, id think the timer!

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

Maytag Neptune stacking washer, model #MLG2000AWW, sounds like a jet engine warming up during spin cycle. Otherwise it is quiet and works well. Is a main bearing going out? Is it something I can fix...

you can but it wouldnt be economical to fix it if it sounds like a jet it is yr rear bearing and although the part might be only 60 dollars the amount of time it would take someone to do the job correctly is about 2-3hrs if you can do the job yourself then you would save on a large labor bill ive seen some techs price doing this job at starting prices of 400 you can find the part at marcone appliance parts if you choose to do the job yrself hope this helps

Maytag neptune mlg2000aww door will not lock or spin

Removing the top cover of the dryer, you will find, in the front right, the machine electronic control board with a burned resistor. This resistor burns up when the washer lock motor fails. The lock motor and control board will need replacing. Parts cost will be around $220.00.

Washer runs when timer dial turned though ON button not pushed

Problem solved by ourselves! It was NOT in the circuit board (brain) of the machine. It was NOT in the door locking assembly as others would lead us to believe. It WAS the on/off switch on the control panel--part number 22002560 - a $22.00 problem fix.
