I can't find the ignition key to my 1986 Monte Carlo SS. I was told by one dealer that they only hold codes for 20 years, so I can't get another one made that way. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, the dealer led me to believe my only option was to replace the ignition all together, but I thought a locksmith might be a better option. I would go to a nearby GM dealer and explain to them you want to buy column parts and would like to see an exploded view diagram to "shop" from.
They should be more then happy to print one off for you. Good luck
I can't see it being a problem. SS was basically just an option on a platform for all Monte Carlos.Everything from an SS should bolt on or in, depending on how far you go with it. Hope this helps.
Is the battery dead or disconnected? I've had that problem in another Chevy. With battery disconnected it would not return to the off position and allow me to remove the key.
well i would deffinatly have the battery checked out because more than likly if you left the key in the on position the battery is dead let me know if this helps
