I have an Electrohome 20E404 TV bought 3 years ago. The original remote was broken and I have used ever since various universal remotes instead. Now I have a HRS Global remote type URC-386, which is working partially only and erratically. Somehow it has locked the screen, and I can't do nothing, as long as it doesn't have a Lock or Display button. Should I buy an Electrohome remote ? And where ?

If you wish to buy a genuine remote control, you have to contact the authorized service center. If you wish to buy a universal remote control, you should know about, which brand remote control have set-up codes to your TV brand, and buy that one according to availability.

I would recommend that you try ebay. Universal remotes should work if you can perform an auto scan of the codes instead of entering one in.

These are generic RCA Universal Remote codes to control an Electrohome TV: 006, 011, 014, 027, 038, 061, 068.

Your specific model will have other additional codes. If these codes don't work, you could try re-posting with more information.

Many RCA universal remotes have a CODE SEARCH button. If yours does, here are the steps to search for the proper Electrohome TV control codes:

1. Manually turn ON your TV.
2. Press and hold CODE SEARCH.
3. Press and release the TV button.
   
4. Release CODE SEARCH.
5. Press OFF/ON repeatedly until the TV turns off (you may have to press up to 100 times at a rate of once per second).
6. Once the TV turns off, press and release ENTER.

Me thinks IF you tried the 'code search' function and none worked, I sincerely doubt if any other 'codes' will marry your Philips Remote to your electrohome TV.

This is because your "SEARCH" effort already went through ALL of the possible codes THAT Philips Remote knows and can deliver. It is also possible that a different MODEL of Philips Remote MAY stumble on codes that DO work!

IF you have a 'original' remote, SOME NEWER remotes can LEARN the proper codes from the original remote! BUT you NEED that original remote to send the desired IR data pulses to the smart student remote.

And GOD ~ those TV's are SO OLD, did they even HAVE remotes??

Program the remote with the code/codes provided by the remotes manufacturer until you find the one that gives you the functions that you desire, or you could look for the OEM remote from the manufacturer of the TV or on an auction site.
A lot of times the universals won't perform all the functions that the original one does.

The Product: Electrohome 27E510

The Problem:
3rd Party Universal Remote when trying to "scan" for correct codes inadvertently activates a diagnostics setting on the TV set.

The Symptoms:
The word "FACTORY" appears on the upper left quadrant of the screen in RED letters & suddenly all controls are "Locked Out." Television will not respond to button presses on original remote or on it's built-in-buttons on the side panel. All settings/options are "Locked Out" & the TV can only be shut OFF by physically unplugging it. Additionally, when the TV is plugged back in, it is still in the "ON" state & remains in "Locked Out" state.

The Solution: (thanks to a couple of hard-working Support Personnel at NESA)
Plug TV back into power source. Wait until it powers up and the word "FACTORY" is visible on-screen.
Press 6-4-8-3 on the TV's ORIGINAL IR remote device.
You are now in the diagnostic settings Sub-Menu, & the word "ADJUST" will be on the screen.
Press "MENU" on your TV's ORIGINAL IR remote device.
The TV is now back to it's former fully-functioning state.
