I went to start my smoker Thanksgiving morning in Denver and I got the EAAF error. I checked all electrical connections and they appeared fine; I next removed the digital control box and stuck it inside my jacket to warm it up (was 15 deg outside) and lit a candle inside the smoker. After 20 min I put everything back together and it worked. Just remember to remove the candle inside the smoker. I plan to call Mastercraft on Monday to see if they can tell me what EAAF means.

what did they say about it i just had the same error on mine

  • jimbillups Dec 27, 2010

I live in Morton, IL and had the same error. It was 19 degrees. After reading cpetrickjr's comment, I moved the smoker to the garage and placed a space heater near it. It worked perfectly after that. However, I did leave the garage door slightly open.

Thanks guys, you just saved our New Years Day meal, Got this smoker for my husband for Christmas and this was the first time to use it. We brought it in from the back porch, put it out in the garage and I turned my blow dryer on the control panel. Within 5 minutes it fired up and is now cooking our dinner. Thanks again!!

We live in Evergreen, CO and had the same problem. It's been frigidly cold for the past few days and only up to 26 when we tried to start it up. Your posts helped us figure out the problem. It's warming up in the sunroom now with a couple heaters on it. I figure I will start up shortly. Can't wait to try out the smoked briquet later! Thank you!

Awesome this really did work! Used a blow dryer to heat up the control panel and the inside of the smoker and it started right up. This search was more beneficial then the Masterbuilt website.

yes, the temperature was 31 outside and it wouldn't start. Took a space heater out and placed in on the floor on a box with the heat going into the smoker with the door open. Yeah, it started when the temperature got up to 35 degrees. I had the brined fish ready to go and what was I going to do with it.

heres what another customer did to get rid of the eaaf eror code

If the smoker has been sitting out in the cold when not in use you will get an error code and it will not heat. Take a hair dryer and use it to warm up the sensor. The sensor is located inside the smoker. Open the door and look for a small box with a metal cable coming from it. Mine was located just inside the door in the celling of the smoker seems that when the internal tempreture drops below 40 people start getting this eaaf error code try using the hairdryer on it you can contact masterbuilt to find out exactly what this code means there contact info is Email. customerservice@masterbuilt.com Phone . 1.800.489.1581. 706.327.5622 (local for Columbus, Georgia) 706-660-8022 if you have any further questions please message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks again and merry christmas

Masterbuilt smoker model 20070910 with controller error code eaaf. email: [email protected]

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
It is telling you that the temp is below 40 degrees F. All you need to do is warm up the temp probe to 40F and it should work just fine. Use a hand held hair dryer or a warmed up shop vac on b.l.o.w to warm it up.

Display is reading EAAF. What does that mean?

If the internal temp is less than 40 F you will get his code. Warm up the heat sensing probe and it should work just fine. If not here is the contact number: MASTERBUILT Customer Service at 1-800-489-1581

I have a masterbuilt 20070106 and it is flashing a code EAAF. What does that mean?

Internal temperature must be above 40 F. Use a hair dryer on the internal thermostat and it will start right up.

I am getting the EAAF code. What does it mean?

The manual said to unplug the smoker and wait 10 secs and then plug it back in. I tried that and it did not solve the problem. However, I did leave it plugged in with that error code while I was searching the web for an answer. Over the next 5 min or so, the error code went away and my smoker started heating up as if it had no issues.

The solution may be to just let it sit for a few min and then it will begin on its own. The only variable I can think of is that I am smoking in cold conditions for the first time. It may be the case that since the smoker was outside in single digit temperatures, that may have triggered the error code. Who knows, in any case, I am back to smoking for Thanksgiving. Crisis averted.

Getting eaaf error code

Internal Temp is below 40 degrees. To remedy this, take a hair dryer, and heat up the heat sensor until it is above 40 dgrees. The unit should start to heat up. Keep it on the sensor until the unit is heating for a minute or two, it should stay on after that.

Digital readout says eaaf

The unit will not turn on if the internal temp sensor is below 40 degrees. Warm it with a hot rag or hair dryer, or bring the unit inside to warm up and it will turn on. Once the unit turns on for a minute or so, it will work fine outside.

This isn't the ideal solution, but it will work. I don't know why they don't want the smoker to turn on when it is cold out (unless they are worried that the quick change in temp will damage the heating coil).

My smoker reads eaaf on he digital printout

I'm having the exact same problem this morning. It worked a few days ago when I "seasoned" it. I read something about the controller being cold sensitive so I brought it inside to see if that works.
