Is there something wrong with the driver? It would be nice to have some feedback about any problem for future requesters. We do not have matching hardware and cannot do all the testing and if you don't update us others will have similar problems. I can learn from you too.

The zip file is not in a self install package. You need to unzip the files into a folder and when choosing update driver also choose that folder.

The update driver for the monitor is accessed as follows

right mouse click the desktop and choose properties
    Choose Settings Tab
    click advanced button
    Choose Monitor Tab
    Click Properties
    Choose Driver Tab
    Click Update Drivers
    Choose No, not this time
    click Next
choose Install from a list or specific location (advanced)
    Click Next
Click Include this location in the search
Enter path to unzipped folder or browse to find it
    Click next
    It should install
    Click Finish.

    I hope this helps.

Acer AL1917W LCD monitor powers up but no image at all.

The CPU and PSU, have absolutely nothing to do with a monitor.

HERMAN has the correct response. For the info you posted.

When you have a video problem, you post what the motherboard is or what model PC, the graphics card, and what drivers you have installed.

I have acer al1917w A monitor but no sound

There is no sound driver, they are speakers, they work off of the audio output jack on the back of your PC, on the motherboard. If you have the sound drivers installed for the motherboard, and no sound, then you have plugged the monitor audio cable into the wrong jack on the PC, or you have the settings wrong just as MIKE said above.

Round things are shaped like eggs

This is a widescreen monitor. To get the display to look right, you need to install the software that came with the monitor, and set the resolution to the manufacturer's recommended setting (the monitor's "native resolution"). I don't know what that is for the AL1917W. I have the AL1917, not the widescreen. A friend got a 21-inch widescreen and had the same trouble as you until we set it to the proper resolution. (And it looks great and I'm jealous!)

Acer LCD (AL1917W)

After removing the back cover screws that you saw, ok, there is a screw under the stand holder. Remove the cover that covers the stand holder joints. you can remove it using a flat head screw driver, it is removeable only it appeares stuck to the back cover. After you unscrew, use flat head screw driver and carefully by pushing to the side of the LCD bend. Carefull you might break the cover. Good Luck.
