My daughter's Emerson CR500 compact refrigerator completely stopped getting cold about four months after we purchased it. It would cost me $57 to ship it to CA to have it fixed, so I'm wondering if it might be something to get fixed locally or should I just buy another brand? The fridge was $149 from a local Target.

Your freezer fan unit may be frozen behind the inside wall and therefore not circulating the cold air down.
Se if you can remove the screws and back wall to check the fan unit.
Not all modeles can be repaired this way

:
Hi!
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
It does a lot of clicking (trying to start over and over again)
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one. (110 v)

Gold star compact refrigerator has very hot backside

Leave it alone, it is totally correct. That is the radiator and it is supposed to get rid of heat through the radiator. You even have heaters in the sides of the fridge called mullon heaters.

Emerson Compact Refrigerator not cold.

Make sure the condenser fan is running, it is located near the compressor and blows across the condensing coils, and make sure the coils are clean. Compressors usually do get pretty hot though. And make sure all you fans are running in the inside

Our Chefmate compact refrigerator is being used in the cab of our 18 wheeler. It is less than 3 months old. It still runs but doesn't get cold. What would cause this after such a short time?

the coils might need blowing out or it might need a tiny shot of freon

My husband and I bought this same refrigerator around 11/2009 and it doesn't work now either. We too bought this refrigerator at a local target. Yikes. We bought ours for our daughters dorm room and it didn't stay working even one year. Is that how Emerson told you to handle it - by shipping that stupid thing to CA. Thats ridiculous.

I bought the same refrigerator also at Target. It won't work unless I turn on high and then everything in it freezes. Emerson told me to ship it to CA from IL. That's stupid. Luckily my brother use to repair things for Maytag. He told me he might be able to fix it, if it is not the compressor.
