Emerson Im90 Portable Ice Maker Questions & Answers
My Emerson Portable Ice Maker started makeing a loud grinding sound when pumping water -why?
I had this same problem that cropped up about 6 months after I purchased the ice maker. When it pumped water into the ice tray, the water pump would make a loud grinding noise. I inspected the pump and found that the impeller was in contact with the bottom of the pump housing. I partially disassembled the pump and inserted a small washer I fabricated out of electrical tape to enlarge the gap between the impeller and the bottom of the pump housing. I also took care not to over-tighten the screws when reassembling the pump. The grinding noise went away completely, and it's back to normal operation now. Even if you have no idea what you're doing, like me, it's a 15 minute fix with practically zero materials cost.I have no idea what caused the problem originally, unless there was a washer that disintegrated over several months' worth of use.
Emerson ice maker not freezing ice, making small cubes and they are soft and mushy.. seems to not freeze ice solid and takes forever to drop ice
When was the last time you cleaned it by running ice machine cleaner through it. After a period of time algea, or slime will form on the chill plate where the ice is made. Sometimes its invisible to the eye, but it doesn't mean its not there. When this happens the machine will freezse the water, and when the ice tries to slide forward to the cutting grid, it catches on the chill plate. There are no sensors in the machine to tell it that this is happening and so the machine moves forward and starts running more water across the plate, which in turn runs across the ice caught on the chill plate melting it and using it as a ramp to fall into the bin melting the ice there as well. So, try cleaning it before taking any further steps, then if the problem persist feel free to get in touch. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Water won't stop running into icemaker tray.
You should check the filter and change it if needed as well as flush the water line where fresh water allege can build up. There is also a small grommet that can where out. Just get the make and model of your unit take it to a maintenance shop and tell them what's happening and they will sell you the appropriate part and it's pretty cheap, couple bucks. Where to put in the water
When you open the lid, there should be a basket to catch the ice. Lift the basket out (there are handles on each side) and the "reservoir" where you add the water is underneath. There will be a line that says something like "Water maximum fill", it won't kill it to fill above that line but the ice will be sitting in the water (and melting faster) if you do.
