Sounds like it was starving for fuel. First thing to do is check your fuel pump pressure with a gauge. Try sprayinf a little starting fluid into the throttle body to see if it will start. If it does, then you know its a fuel problem.

Intermittant no spark. Cruising along and shuts off like someone flipped a kill switch

Gotta be either fuel, fire, compression or timing, so next time it dies, spray a little starting fluid into the intake, if it starts right back up -fuel problem-probably stopped up fuel filter, bad fuel pump. If not, remove a spark plug wire and attach old spark plug , lay it on a grounded metal part of the engine or frame , have someone try to start it, watch to see if the plug is firing.

You might want to check the pick up coil inside the distributer..Also make sure you dont have excessive play in the distributer shaft..Are you sure your losing only fire..What about injection control and fuel..?

look at a fuse,relay for fuel pump ,and or pump maybe the cause.you might even have a broken or corroded wire.I would try the fuse or relay first
