SOURCE: Only hot water in sink/basin when toilet is flushed

I had a customer a few weeks ago that had the same problem. When the water heater was installed they crossed the supply lines. They had the inlet as the outlet. Esentially, the water heater was plumbed in backwards. Also there could be a miss piping somewhere in the house but it would probably be near impossible to find it right now without tearing up foundations. Also check that the faucet is not plumbed backwards as well. Especially if this is a single handle faucet that you are referring to.

SOURCE: Bosch AquaStar 125b ng suddenly goes cold during shower

Does it happen to any other fixture? If not, it's most likely your shower valve and not heater.

SOURCE: I have a problem with my Rinnai hot water heater

We had the same problem - the hot water would only be hot for 3 -5 minutes and shut off, then we had to turn the water off, wait a few minutes, and do it again. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Solution: The Rinnai serviceman showed me the heat-exchanger blower/fan: It was clogged with dust and moths.

Another clue: Our Rinnai was extremely noisy when the heat came on. After the fan was cleaned and replaced, it is nearly silent.

If you are reasonably mechanically inclined:
TURN THE BREAKER / POWER OFF to the unit.

The blower-fan is located in the lower central area of the unit (at least on our unit). If you draw imaginary north-south, east-west lines through the center of the unit, the fan is in the lower-left quadrant. There is a spring clamp securing the black rubber accordian-like tube to the fan. There are two screws that secure the fan to the unit. there are two plugs that connect to the fan, as well as a third air-flow sensor that should be removed. then you can look at the fan unit, as well as the grill on the underside of the heat-exchanger that should be cleaned.

My thought was to go out and get a simple bug-screen, and place it over the air-input outlet vent going outside, but the repair guy said that although it may sound good, if that screen ever gets clogged, or reduces airflow to the Rinnai, then the unit will work harder, or even shut off, giving the same problem.

I have a 2013 dodge journey 4 cyl......my coolant tank shows about 1 inch low on coolant ....is it ok to add tap water to bring it up to max level

No , never use tap water ! A 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze ! Is it low when engine is hot or is below add cold mark . Should be two levels hot or cold ! And use distilled water if you make your own 50/50 mix .

Save hundreds of dollars each year with this simple water saving tip!

We all read lots of tips when it comes to saving water....but this tip is probably the best kept secret in the water saving arena!! Whenever you are preparing the water for a shower begin by turning the hot water on full and leaving the cold water completely off UNTIL the hot water begins to flow. THEN add the cold into the mix. Other wise, you send hundreds of gallons of cold water down the drain if you begin by letting a mixture of hot and cold run until it finally gets hot. WHY is this the case. Because, the hot water sitting in the hot water pipe cools off over time. The only way to actually get the hot water to the spout is to displace all of the cooled off water out of the hot water pipe until the hot water starts to flow again!

My Bristan Meridian Show start ok with hot water then after a few minutes the water runs cold. Even if you try and increase the temp it still remains cold. You can switch of the shower and start again...

It sounds like 1 of 2 things to me. I will start wit hot water heater. The first test for the water heater is to have someone run the hot water while you hold the hot and cold pipes and see if the water is coming out of the water heater cold when the shower goes cold. Of the water heater is cold coming out then the problem is in the heater. ether a lower element is bad or the dip tube is broken at the top of the tank. if the hot water heater continues to put out hot water when the shower goes cold then it has to be the mixing valve for the hot and cold mix at the shower and that valve will have to be repaired or replaced. hope this gives you a good start. let me know if I can help further.

Our water keeps fluctuating between hot and cold. The hot water will not stay on. It lasts about 1 minute and then turns to cold. After about 2-3 minutes it will get hot again?

The inlet line to the water heater goes to the bottom of the water heater to prevent the cold incoming water from mixing with the heated water at the top. The tube going to the bottom can come loose.

Turn the water off and relieve the pressure by opening a faucet and remove the fitting where the water enters the heater. You can see if the pipe is still connected.

Heats up the rapidly decreases within in minutes.

Problem new or old? How long you have unit? Sounds like not enough flow to keep burner on. Tankless need at least .6 gpm to keep hot water flowing or else the burner fires then shuts fires then shuts and you get a sandwich effect...hot cold hot cold. If you have new diverter valve in shower -vs- old two handle type try turning hot water ALL the way ON and see if hot stays hot. If it does stay hot then slowly adjust to cool and see if you maintain a good MIX for proper temp. If it goes cold again try this......LOWER control pad setting to a comfortable 105 degrees (ladies) 100 degrees(men) and turn shower valve all the way to HOT. See if your temp remains consistant now and if it does then problem solved. Tankless mindset...set temp on control pad and stop trying to MIX at shower valve. Thats how these things work. Thats why I install a control pad in each bath and one in the kitchen for adjusting ash temp during dishwasher on time. ditto for wash machine. You should never need to turn on cold water if your unit is set to proper temp at controller. Hope this helps

Moen Single Handle Shower Faucet-turn on get cold, little hot

You can try to rotate the first plastic ring to the left of center a few teeth, this will let the handle advance alittle more to the hot side.

Hot water first from faucet, two minutes later cold???

you could be having a problem elsewhere in house system! do you have a garden hose hooked up with a "Y" hose? or something in system were hot and cold connect...then a valve after? what happens is the hot water can back siphon through cold lines..its rare, but this happens, and is dangerous! water from hot water tank is full of bacteria, and if you drink it , well thats not good!
