So this happened 6 weeks ago. If I read between the lines, I will assume that you may have just acquired this house a short time ago.

And since you are talking about an "air switch", I will assume this is an air tub.

Air tubs are designed to turn the air blower on in a pre-determined time after the water has been drained. This function blows out the remaining water in the lines and jets to reduce water accumulation and bacteria buildup.

There should be a certification plate on the back with a CSA symbol, you may also have a UL symbol it may be equivalent

A large portion of the discoloration I see has got nothing to do with the metal, which is normally a genuinely latent aluminum shrouded in aluminum oxide. Knob 2 sets the chimes. Knob 3's fourth setting appears to turn off the chimes at night. That said, this is a bit deceptive. The steps to changing the chimes settings are sequential. The following link may assist regarding the setting and stopping of chimes and the restarting of the clock.
