My freezer has had ice built up on the bottom shelve for about a year now. It leaks once in awhile, what can I do?

My freezer has had ice built up on the bottom shelve for about a year now. It leaks once in awhile. We had a power outage 2 nights ago, and since then the temperature has been rising in the freezer and the alarm has sounded twice in 24 hours. Could the 2 problems be associated with each other? I have read how to eliminate the ice build up issue, but not sure about the temperature issue. Thanks

We cleaned the tube causing the ice build up and my husband replaced the pcb inverter. The fridge came on, the compressor was running, no alarms sounded, we let it run for about 7 hours, but it never got cold. Ideas or suggestions?

The power cut may have damaged the compressor. If it overheated trying to restart it may just click on and off for a while. Check if the compressor is hot and running.

Testimonial: "My husband replaced the pcb inverter. we let the fridge run for about 7 hours, but it didn't get cold. the compressor seems to be fine. We cleaned the tube that appeared to be causing the ice build up finding debris and a piece of a plastic tie. We don't believe that was associated with the alarm issue. He just removed the inverter & reinstalled it to try again. Ideas?"

Is the cabinet properly defrosted before you're starting up again? Is there an internal fan, and, if so, is it running properly?

SOURCE: fridge bottom has water under vegetable drawers

Make sure the door is closing properly, that nothing is trapped in the door seal, and that the seal isn't torn or distorted. The seals are there to stop moist external air getting in then dropping its load of moisture as it cools. A.

SOURCE: bosch fridge freezer - ice build up and water leak from freezer

Hi,
This is most likely a blocked drain pipe - blocked with ice that is.

Remove all the drawers in the freezer - and stack them up.
With the unit switched off and unplugged, undo the fixings on the rear pannel in the freezer (behind the drawers)
Remove it to see the evaporator coils etc.
At the base there should be a channel - and a hole leading to the drain pipe. This needs unblocking wih a thin flexible cable. -net curtain support wire is ideal, and cheap. or use a short length of insulated cable.
Check it comes out at the rear of the unit onto the evaporator container - situated on top ofthe compressor.
Replace everything and switch on.

SOURCE: Bosch stand alone freezer Intelligent 32 - how to defrost

Hi
I have the same refrigerator and found the manual;
"The refrigerator compartment was programmed to defrost automatically meaning you do not have to constantly clean and dry it. Copy from the manual"
Also have a look in the back for the drain outlet - very small. If that is clogged up it also cause water on the inside.

Sounds like the defrost drain at the bottom of the freezer section is frozen over and clogged.
shut the refrigerator off, remove the food in the freezer
remove the shelves
remove the lower panel on the rear wall
at the bottom is the drain pan with a hole
my guess that it is full of ice?
use hot sink water and remove the ice
then use a turkey baster to clear the hole and the hose.
If the water still won't drain your going to have to manually clean the hose.

My Whirlpool refrigerator is leaking and water is dripping on to the shelves and in the bottom of the fridge under the crispers. I had a guy from Cal Tech Services to look at it 3 times now and it still...

Hello,

On a top-freezer when the drain stops up water will back up turning to ice and eventually filling the air ducks with ice blocking airflow to the fresh food section causing it not to cool. You will also see a water leak inside the fresh food section. To fix this, remove the evaporator cover, (back or bottom of freezer) and then remove all the ice. Once all the ice is removed, you need to unclog the drain. I do this by forcing hot water down the drain with a turkey baser but you can use any squirt bottle, I have even used the water hose. Once the drain is clear, mix water and baking soda and pour it down the drain to prevent this from happening again anytime soon.

Hope this helpout,

My Maytag wide by side is leaking water from the

Yes. Your defrost drain hole in the lower rear of the freezer is frozen over with ice. Turn off the fridge. Remove the shelves and bins from the freezer side. Break up any ice on the floor of the freezer and dispose of it. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice over the drain hole in the rear portion of the freezer. Once it is clear pour a 1/4 cup of bleach into the drain hole.

You will see ice on the bottom rear of the freezer. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice, especially in the drain hole once you get through the surface ice. Once the drain hole is clear, pour a cup of hot water through the drain hole followed by 1/4 cup bleach. Re-install your parts and turn the fridge back on.

WATER COMING OUT FROM THE FREEZER SIDE

You most likely have a clogged drain, turn off or unplug the unit Remove the shelves a racks from the bottom half of the freezer section You'll see a metal panel at bottom  at the top of this panel are two screws, remove those and tilt up the plastic panel so you can remove the bottom panel.
Once that is out of the way you'll see Ice built up in the drain trough at the bottom don't poke around with anything sharp but you can tap the ice with a screw driver handle and break it up for removal, once the ice is removed pour a cup of hot water into the trough to thaw the drain, when it thaws the water will run into the pan under the unit and evaporate

Freezer froze on top thawing on bottom

Dispose of the unit and buy a new one. If it leaked the refrigerant out you have to fix the leak before charging it again. The chances of finding the leak are slim.

HELP WITH WATER LEAK??

If you have turned the water off and it is still leaking out of the freezer side you may have a plugged drain. the drain is there as part of the defrost system to keep modern refrigerators frost free. When the machine goes into defrost and the heater in the freezer comes on it drains out the drain to a pan underneath and the heat from the compressor and the condenser fan underneath the unit evaporate it and the whole process starts all over again. every once in a while something will plug the drain on the bottom of the inside of the freezer side and when the heater kicks on to defrost the refrig the water cant go anywhere but to the bottom of the freezer and seeps out the front at the bottom of the door between the gasket and the refrig. check the drain...because if you have turned off the water and it is still showing up this could very well be your problem. Take the bottom shelves out of the freezer and look to the back and bottom at the middle sometimes you can see the drain and sometimes you have to remove the thin metal panel covering the back bottom half of the freezer,....inspect the drain hole and remove any obstructions or ice build up. if need be pour hot water into the drain to melt any ice that could be causing the obstruction to the drain. and the hot water should drain out of the frige.Write me back and let me know if I can help you further....

Roper--ice buildup on one freezer shelf

The reason for ice buildup is an air leak. Recheck all around the gasket by taking a dollar bill and closing the door on it and pulling it out. If you don't have resistance, you found your leak. Heat that area with a blow dryer to relax the gasket and close the door to let the magnet and seal set. Also, rub some vasoline on the hinge side gasket to keep it from dragging.
