Both equations are straight lines with different slopes and different intercepts. Where these two lines cross is the ordered pair (x,y) required. This point is (0.15, 0.115)

-6x-3y=27

The x intercept is where your line will cross the x axis. Therefore, the value for y at this point is 0. Substitute 0 for y in this equation and solve for x.

6x + 3(0) = 27
x = 27/6
x = 4 1/2

x intercept = (4 1/2, 0)

Follow the same reasoning for the y intercept.

6(0) + 3y = 27
y = 27/3
y = 9

y intercept = (0,9)

Now plot these two points and draw your line through them.

My 'X=" isn't showing up above the "Y="

When you push the button [Y=] to open the function editor you will see Y1=,Y2= etc. That is the default behavior. By default the graph type is FUNCTION (y=f((x). However there are other graph types, for instance PARAM, POLAR, and SEQUENCE.
For Parametric graphs, you need two functions x as a function of t and y as a function of t. In this case, when you open the function editor, you will see pairs of functions x1(t), y1(t), x2(t), y2(t), etc. Both x and y functions of the pair must be supplied.

So if your x= function is not showing, then you must open the MODE screen, and scroll down to reach the 4th line that says FUNC, PAR, POL, SEQ. Highlight PAR and press ENTER. You do that only if you want to graph parametric functions.

What is n?

Press [Y=]. In the Y1= line, type [cos] [6] [ALPHA] [X] [)]

Press [WINDOW]. Enter 0 for Xmin. If n is a variable stored in memory, enter 2N for Xmax. Otherwise enter an appropriate value for Xmax. You might also want to put in better values for Ymin and Ymax, such as -2 and 2, respectively. (For a negative number, be sure to use the [(-)] key next to the decimal point and not the [-] key on the rightmost column.)

Press [GRAPH] to see the graph.

Is the ordered pair a solution of the equation? 6x - 3 = y; (0, -3)

6x- 3 = y; (0, -3)

Here 6x - 3 = y is the equation
The ordered pair is (0, -3 )
It means if you substitutes 0 for x and -3 for y the equation will be true
Let us substitute and see:-
'6x' (means 6 times x) means 6 times 0 which is equal to 0
So the equation 6x - 3 = y becomes
0- 3 = -3 is correct
The ordered pair means the values of x and y which make the equation correct
Hope this is clear enough
Good luck

How do I graph ordered pairs on a TI 86 plus?

Hello,
Use the stat menu. Enter 1st member of a pair in List1, Enter 2nd member of pair in List2. Graph the data as a scatter plot in stats plots.
Hope it helps.

Graph and trace buttons don't work

This is probably because you have the stat plot on. You would need to go to y= and then go to the top where it says stat plot 1 and un highlight it if it is highligted. That should fix your problem.

Graph and trace buttons don't work

If either error occurs when trying to graph a function (not a STAT PLOT), the error can be corrected by turning off the STAT PLOTS. The following steps will turn the STAT PLOTS off, allowing the graph of the function to be displayed.• Press [2nd] [Y=] to access the STAT PLOTS menu.
• Select 4: PlotsOff.
• Press [ENTER].
• Try graphing a function like y = x^4-3x^3+6x-1
