My top-freezer Whirlpool refrigerator is no longer ''frost-free''. There is a thick layer of ice on the floor of the freezer. I chip it off, it comes back. I tried manually defrosting it, and it was ok for a couple of days and then a new layer of ice formed. The temperature of both the freezer and Fridge are fine. I have both set to the mid-setting. The door gaskets appear to be fine.
Your defrost drain line is frozen over.Remove everything from the fridge and turn it off for 24 hours with the doors standing open.
The drain line will thaw and you will return to normal operation.
You could also turn the fridge off, remove the freezer floor panel and back panel. Take a hair dryer and thaw out the drain hole. Takes about 2 hours.
You decide which procedure to use.

It has an icemaker, but it has never been hooked up to water. I am old fashioned and use trays.
