My tv [vizio vf550m] won't respond to a remote.

Last year I replaced the main board due to the tv not powering up, after that everything worked ok. One day the remote stopped working. The buttons on the side of the tv still work. I tried different universal remotes with no response. I replaced the IR board, still nothing. Could it be something on the main board again?

Vizio is famous for having main board issues. If you have replaced the IR board the only two other items it could be is a broken wire from the IR to main or the main board has an issue. Nothing else can stop the remote from working provided the remote is working properly.

Thanks, thats what I thought. When I replaced the IR board I checked the wires and even reseated the wire plug on the main board. Do you know where I can get a main board for cheap? Last one was $150.

What you need to do is a very simple test to figure out if the problem is from your Main Board or your IR Sensor. First, try turning the volume of your TV with the button set on the TV. If the volume goes up and down then your IR Sensor is bad. You can order a new at parts runners. 3655 0012 0189 0171 1671 0612 Vizio IR Sensor

SOURCE: vizio remote control not working

Hi, I had the same problem. My vizio remote for my 42 inch 2 month old vizio also seemed to stop working. Here's what I did: My vizio remote (like most remote's nowadays) was designed for multiple components (tv, dvd, vcr, etc). All you need to do to make the remote work again is set it back to tv. Now, the confusing thing about vizio remotes is that they actually have TWO places where you can switch the remote to the appliance you want to control. One is on top of the remote, the other is on the BOTTOM. Switch it back to TV using the BOTTOM. My remote had stopped working because I had inadvently switched it to another component on the BOTTOM component switch.

SOURCE: vx37l stopped working with FiOS remote

I read in another forum where Vizio sometimes uses Vidtech codes. I got 0205 to work on my new Vizio V037L with my Verizon FiOS remote (Phillips RC144).

SOURCE: code for Vizio tv

Unfortunately, those remotes only take a 3 digit code. I bought 2 new remotes, which do take 4 digit codes, but the code(s) for the Vizio do not work (or partially). I found that the 4 digit codes for the Goldstar and LG work better than those provided for the Vizio, but still not as good as the original Vizio remote.

SOURCE: vizio remote control not working

Wow, I feel stupid! Solution #2 did it! There are 2 Tv buttons, one on the top right and one on bottom right. You have to press the bottom one!! THANK YOU PPL!!!

My vizio remote works but the tv doesn't respond. I replaced the remote anyway but it still doe not work. resetting tv doen't work what is next?

It is possible the remotes are either bad or not compatible to the tv. Recheck the remote type and the batteries to see it that helps.

I have a VIZIO VF550M LCD T.V. I was watching T.V. and it went off and won't turn back on. What can I do to fix it?

Outside of leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes to do a reset, there's not much you can do. It sounds as thought the set needs repair. Sounds like you have an issue with either the power supply or main board

Vizio plasma tv will not turn on by button or remote, cable box is lit. We had a loss of power last night due to a storm. What do we do to check it.

hi usually the cause of won't power on problem due to the storm is the current fluctuation which the tendency is power supply failure. now since totally dead set what you need is to open the tv unit then look for the power supply where the power cord is connected. check obvious defective component part like blown fuse and burnt part like resistor and capacitor. just replaced with the same value and ratings to avoid damage from others component.if their is no problem with the power supply the output voltages are good the main board get damaged. good luck thanks for consulting the fixya.

Can you be more specific in your problem? Also can you send me the make and model of your tv. I assume this is the Vizio remote you're talking about. Is it? If it is then read below.

This sounds like an ir or main board problem. I assume you checked the batteries in the remote. If they are good then its your boards
