Wine cooler started overheating and condensation formed inside glass. Cleaned filter still temperature shot up.

FR24RD, 1 yeart old on Christmas, no cooling and condensation. Do these all self destruct after 1 year?

Emerson has NO service information on their website.

My emerson wine cooler also one year old- power went out and it has not worked since!!

Maybe just a ploy to get us to buy new ones!

Also have had FR24RD for about a year. Purchased from Target. Does not hold Temp and condensation puddles inside. Both fans spin and appear to be working normally. Took unit back plate and "fan system" apart, cleaned it, and still not cooling. Extremely frustrated.

I have the same problem with my 8 bottle Emerson wine cooler. I have had it just over 16 months and it quit cooling and water began puddling up in the bottom of the unit. I cleaned the fan and screen in the back and it seemed to work for about a week and then it quit cooling again. I assume that whatever was wrong with it initially was still wrong with it after I cleaned it. Seems to me that there should be a recall as the product is defective.

If you are handy with small electrics, or know someone who is...

I had a similar problem and just solved it.
My cooler was leaking and had trouble keeping the proper temperature.
It was also making a buzzing sound which is what lead me to my solution.
BTW - The liquid that was leaking was condensation, probably because the unit was not holding a constant temperature.

Unplug the unit first - no need to get electrocuted.
These units use peltier cooling- essentially a large heat sink with three fans attached.
Click here for more info regarding peltier cooling.
The peltier unit is not repairable, but the fans are; which was what my problem was.
There are three fans on this unit, one on the inside and two on the outside.
Follow these steps to remove them.

  1. Remove the rear cover. It is held on with ten screws. This exposes the two exterior fans and the peltier heat sink
  2. The heat sink is held on with four screws - remove them and pull the heat sink out. The third fan is on a short wire lead, so be careful when removing the heat sink from the body of the cooler.
  3. The two exterior fans are connected to a control panel, the electrical connection is easy to disconnect.
  4. Once all of the wires have been disconnected, you can remove the fans from the heat sink.
  5. The fans are screwed to a mounting plate, which is screwed to the heat sink
  6. You must remove the mounting plate first to expose the screws that hold the fan to the mounting plate. The fans are typical computer case cooling fans
  7. I only needed one fan, but replaced all three because I didn't want to do this job again.
  8. I purchased my fans from Newark.com the prices were better than what I found at the computer websites. Also, these fans are much better than the original and will hopefully last much longer than the three I got from the old ones.
  9. You need one of these and two of these. The total with shipping was around $30
  10. You will need to splice the old electrical connection sockets onto the new fans using wire crimpers or solder them on.
  11. Attach the components in reverse order and power on the unit.
  12. These fnas may move more air than the originals, because the unit seemed to cool much quicker than I remember.
  13. Total time for repair is about 45 minutes
Hope this helps and Good Luck

    *** Regarding my solution ***

You need two of these fans and one of these.

    Sorry for any confusion.

I ordered one each of the fans from Newark for my 8-bottle Emerson FR24SL wine cooler. Newark were prompt in filling my order. Within four business days my cooler is working again. It's a very simple fix for a handyman.

There are three fans with the fr23rd, one in the cooling compartment and two in the rear ,mine froze up in the rear after two years , i just took the motors in the rear out lubed them and re-installed them and it works perfect. I'm going to order two rear fan just in case , its really easy to replace them.

Why does my wine cooler run too cold?

If after adjusting your thermostat to desired temp and is still cooling. The thermostat is bad or your relay is bad
If you disconnect the thermostat and the compressor stops it most likely a bad thermostat
If you disconnect the relay from
The thermostat and it stay running it is the relay. It is sticking
If possible store you wine somewhere else and shut the unit down and unplug for 10 to 20 minutes this may cause some melt of condensation some water may be on the floor if is to cold
This may also reset the system.

How do I know whether a thermoelectric cooling system is better for me than a compressor?

This depends on several factors: how much wine you keep on hand, where you will be putting the cooler (cool/warm room in the house) and if you are buying a freestanding cooler/built-in. If you never have more than two cases, plan on keeping the cooler somewhere it won't get too warm and you want a freestanding cooler, you should look into purchasing a thermoelectric cooling system.

I need to lower the temperature

There is a thermostat that is seen on the unit , you will have to set the thermostat to a lower level. Also check if there is any gasket leak to confirm that the cooling does not stay.
Keep the cooler away from hot spots to encourage the cooling to stay.

Can't change the cooler's temperature? the temperature reads LL and its very cold.

LL is an error code which means that it is too cold. Surprised that it didn't freeze something. Problem is likely the thermostat ($15 - RF-7350-55) or motor control board ($50 - RF-0668-04).
