Tip & How-To about Miscellaneous

Google Home Speaker Microphone

After many months of enjoyable use of my Google Home Speaker it suddenly stopped responding.
I had changed modem and router and so I had a new WiFi setup and I thought that was the culprit, but resetting the Google Home Speaker by pressing and holding the Mic button for a long time did not fix the problem.
I used Netgear Genie to make certain my Speaker was recognized on my Network.

I then spent a long time on the Internet, searching Google's website for answers.
Finally I called Google and a Tech there talked me through a couple procedures.
But none of them worked either.

I was getting music I wanted to play on the Speaker to play on my cell phone, so I knew the connection with Google Music was good.

I could not find anything on the Web about how to take the speaker apart, to see if there was a bad microphone connection or something visible I could repair.

I had used the Google Home Speaker for a long time, and just as a last effort I put some 91 percent rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and gently wiped the 2 microphone openings (Yellow arrows).
A significant amount of lint was present on the Q-tip.

I swiped both openings one more time with alcohol using the Q-tip.

The speaker starting working again, perfectly.

I hope this helps someone as frustrated as I was.

We have just gotten a Google Wifi. How do I disconnect my Arris network?

- Your Arris cable modem/router should be setup in bridge mode from the Arris admin screen.
- Your Arris cable modem should have wifi turned off otherwise you'll have 4 wifi networks in your home.
- Your google wifi plugs into (via cable) the back of your Arris using one of the 4 LAN jacks. The google uses the incoming signal from the Arris to create your wifi signal.
- Install the google wifi app on your phone.
- Place your google devices around your home.
- Connect to your first google device and get it connected to your Arris, setup the wifi (SSID) name and password.
- Then connect your devices to the new network name.
Good luck! Here is a link with video of the instructions - https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/7183148?hl=en

I'm getting an Error code 51030 when I'm trying to make a wifi connection on my wii console

Error Code: 51030
Unable to connect to your wireless network
Likely cause: Your wireless router may need to be power cycled, or the connection settings have changed.
How to fix: Power cycle your router; redo the connection settings on the Wii and try again.
  • Did this connection used to work but has suddenly stopped? "Power cycle" your router and modem. To do this, unplug both the modem and the router from the power outlet. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then plug in the router. Try to connect the Wii, Nintendo DS, or Nintendo 3DS online and test for proper response.

  • Erase your old connection settings on the Wii and set up a new one, as your router's settings may have changed since you last connected.

My wireless has suddenly lost connection. My wired works perfectly.

If the wireless has stopped working, but wired can, either your wifi modem on your laptop needs to be reset or the wifi router has to be reset. Make sure you have restarted your laptop and unplugged the wifi router.
