Blinking 'Check Collector Cell' light

which model XL series do you have? There is obviously something shorted or arcing on the plates of the cell. look at the plates and see if they are laying flat and the wires are all still attached across the front of the cell. A loose, sagging, broken or bad contact on the end plates will cause the bad cell lights. clean off the area where the cell makes contact inside the unit. The metal strips that run across the ends of the cell make contact with the plates inside the cell and get their power from them, dirty contacts in any part of these contacts will cause the problem. Even a bad contact from the end cap to the plates inside the cell will cause this. Try wiggling the cell around, kind of push on it on edge to get the plates to shift slightly and clean the points where the plates touch the outer strips on the sides. Check for arcing with the lights turned off,

A red light flashing with clean filter

bad connection on plates or wires that run along the front of the plates in the cell. If you hear snapping or arcing then its the plates shorting out, look for bent plates and broken wires or loose sagging wires.

Oreck SL will not work on medium setting

Either your switch is not making a contact internally or the wire that runs from the motor to the switch is loose or not connected, or that speed is burned out on the motor. Those motors have a separate wire for each speed, so it's either not getting power to the motor from the switch or the that speed setting is burned out on the motor its self. I would just work around it and use the low or high setting until you can take it apart to test if the motor is getting power from the switch, if so then the motor is bad, usually the bearings go out on the motors before the wiring does. Unless your motor was on medium and was stopped for a long period and overheated that setting which will melt the wires and cause it to not work. They have a safety switch on the motors now to keep this from happening.

Will not operate, no reaction when power button pressed. All panels properly locked.

first off does the light come on at all? when the switch is moved to the High Medium or low setting do you see a red light or a green light on the right side of the unit? if there is no light at all, then there is either no power and you have a bad cord or a bad outlet. The only other thing could be the switch that needs to be tripped in order to let the unit run, that switch is closed by the front cover locking in place. that switch could be bad or your cover may have the tip of the pin that pushes the switch closed broken off or deformed and not pushing down enough to close the switch. try pushing a screwdriver down on the switch and see if it comes on. There's nothing that can shock you if you push on that switch, the power wires are concealed inside a plastic covered area that the switch slides into. If you close the switch and it doesn't come on the check the power cord or the wall socket for power. See if the cord has any unusual looking spots or lumps, stretching, cuts or anything that looks suspicious.

How do I put the top on after cleaning a oreck

To put the top back on you have to set in on top about 3/4 of the way before you try sliding it closed. Also check that if you disassembled it to clean the filters some of them will install upside down and then the top will not be able to close.

Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier

If yours is like mine you need to set the cover on top about 2/3 of the way back and then slide it, if you do not put it there and attempt to slide it it will not work. Play with it a little and it should work for you. Also if you took out some of the filers you can install them upside down and that also will prevent the top from sliding on. Good luck!

Take it apart

I had the same issue. What I found upon taking it apart was that it must have fallen and the case was not making contact with one of the safety switches. Taking it apart was easy a mix of phillips head screws and torx screws. Took me 15 minutes to take apart and find the bad spot. I hope your fix is this easy.
