2009 Kawasaki KLX 250 will not go into gear

2009 klx 250. The bike won't go into gear, it stays in neutral. Occurred when the bike was warm and running. Thinking problems with shift drum cam. Any ideas or solutions? Is this a major issue? @

1. Yes, this is a major issue! Its not the shift drum cam unless its broken in half. It might be the shift forks, Won't go into any gear? Is there spring pressure in the shifter or does it flop? Is the shifter TIGHT on the shift shaft? I think its time for a professional to look at it.

SOURCE: Clutch slipping while cold, when warm/hot, it operates great.

I have a 2000 Vulcan Nomad FI & had a very similar problem. In fact, it's a very common problem with these bikes. I fixed it by replacing the Clutch Spring. (As Described here: http://www.gadgetjq.com/clutch_spring_replacement.htm

It cost me $40 and 3 hours of time with an impact wrench.

SOURCE: KLX 250 won't fire - new battery

-check the fuse right hand side below the fuel tank and seat, see if it is blown.
- Check to see if plug has spark, replace if necessary .
- Did you run the bike with a low battery before replacing it? could be that your stator is shot.
-Is bike trying to start but won't?

SOURCE: 2004 klx 125l bike ideling

How long has the bike been sitting? The gas may be bad or the carb might need to be cleaned out or choke may be sticking.

SOURCE: 2009 KLX 250 will start and idel, but dies if you

you have a blocked carb jet the engine is running very week to prove this give it a little choke and it should then rev up ok
so you need to strip down the carb and clean out all the jets,,use carb cleaner and dont go poking bits of wire into any jets to try to clear them,,,you will only distroy them that way,,,comprest air would help if you have it if not its carb cleaner

I have to put my gbike in neutral to start it with an electric start. All the other bikers I know just have to put their clutch in. What kind of trouble shooting can I do to fix this. I have a 2009...

sounds to me as if the switch on the clutch lever is faulty. to check this locate the switch, disconnect the spade connectors, and use a paper clip to join the two wires together you should then be able to start with bike in gear if so then replace clutch lever switch.

My son's friend has a kawasaki klx 250 2006 model. You can ride it for about 5 minutes and when you go to return to neutral, the light will not come on and it will not start. I am not sure whether this...

neutral safety switch light must be on to engage starter, sometimes pulling clutch while in gear will let it start.sounds like switch could need checking.does bike roll free even without the neutral light on,in neutral but no light. or is light out because its still in gear?

No spark 2009 Kawasaki KLX 250

Dan, this sounds like your battery may be the culprit. The starter drains any power the battery has left. Bump starting does not require power from the battery, DO NOT try to jump it from a car!
