Does it sound like backfiring or knocking or squealing/screeching or what ?

Squealing is most common with loose or worn belts, I would start by replacing the drive belt on the front of the motor and go from there, Its easier to troubleshoot a squealing motor if you know that the belt or belts are good.

remove the belt and check all the pulleys that the belt drives. sound as if one of the bearings in the pulley is seized making the belt squeal and smoke.

you have a bad tension pulley my son has same vehicle ,and it was doing the same thing ,till he changed out the tension pulley good luck

will try to assist you. the loud squealing is most likely a belt thats loose. when you start the engine it squeals for what?30seconds? when you turn the heater on it puts a drag of power from your engine and the engine is trying to compensate. so it [engine] asks for power,puts drain on engine and the loose belt squeals.a loose belt will squeal,simply because it's trying to do it's job.but loosing traction. so it squeals. check for play in belts with engine off of course. grab each belt by hand. if it has more than1/4 inch play or [slack] it needs adjustment,or replacement. hope this helps! thank you for choosing fixya.com we are here for you 24/7 7days per week! good luck!!

yes hydrailic and no will not affect engine. Engine problem is just more noticed when transmission not engaged.
Squealing is probably pilot bearing--not a big deal.
Tapping--maybe lifters pumping up
Engine light--get car scanned and report trouble codes back to us.
Autozone and Advance, among other parts stores, offer free scans.

Mine did that off and on for a month with no other problems then it started making a loud suction noise and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they said the "oil separator" needed to be replaced.
After the repair I never heard the squealing again.

check the serp. belt for glazing ont he smooth side and for cracks on the side with all the ribs, if you have either, it's time to replace it. either way, you should remove the belt and spin and rock each pulley back and forth to check for wear or grinding. alsoif this squealing happens only with your ac or windshield defrost on, it's possible that your ac compressor has seized.
