My husband drilled a hole in the key fob for our VW jetta and key. Well he clipped the immobilizer chip and now the car starts but shuts off right away. Can we remove the immobilizer or bypass it?

SOURCE: Key fob needs reset 2006 VW jetta TDI

I hope this might help. -- I had the same problem yesterday and fix the problem today. The steps on the manual (page 32) was too simple and wrong for my case. Read carefully the followint steps and thank me if these steps work. -- JB (owner of Jetta 2.5, 2006 model)

* The most important thing is to make sure that the LED in the driver side window frame stays blinking. The blinking means that the receiver has entered a programming mode and is waiting for the signal from the key. Good luck!

1. Insert the key with a faulty remote into the driver door lock and turn the key to the UNLOCK position 3 times in succession for at least 0.5 seconds each time, and within a total duration of 5 seconds.
: The system should now enter so called a "programming mode" and the window frame LED should blinking once every 1~2 seconds for the next 15 seconds. The faulty remote must be programmed during this period.

2. Aim the key to the (infrared) window frame LED which can be considered as a key signal receiver and press the lock button of the key fob and keep it pressed. While the button is pressed, press the unlock button three times in succession for at least 0.5 seconds each time.
3. Release both buttons.

* After all the efforts described above, the system should now acknowledge a successful programming by flashing the LED once every 1~2 seconds for more than 10 seconds. (Someone said that the small LED on the key fob should also blink a few times; although it didn't in my case.)

SOURCE: transponder chip in key fob

This will all depend upon what country you are in, and if the vehicle even has the need for the chip to be programmed at all.

When you put a proper key in the ignition, is there a antitheft logo that cycles with the other indicators?

VW antitheft indicator in the USA often looks like a car with a key under it

In the USA, thought the keys have a MEGAMOS RFID chip, no system was active until 2000, and on some models, not until 2002

A system requires a VIRGIN chip. Once the chip is programmed to a car, the chip is locked to that car. Some new software can unlock and refresh some chips, but not 100%

I had a client come in TODAY with a 2003 Passat, and an EBAY flip key.... I wasted a half hour programming time..... but I carry the lower half of remote, which hold the blade and the chip, so was able to fix client up, when EBAY failed.

If this was helpful, please post a nice review for City Lock in Boulder Colorado listings on Google Maps, Yahoo etc. This listing will link you to my website as well. On my website are resources for finding a legitimate locksmith near you. Be sure you are hiring a REAL locksmith!

Thank You

Jeff

2006 VW Jetta, no original key fob came with the car, only valet key. Valet key unlocks the car but won't even turn over the motor.

Take the car back on a low loader and tell them you want your money back or the 2 keys.

A Valet key has no anti-theft immobilizer chip in it. It is impossible to start the car with it. It is what is says, so a valet to open the car or the trunk to fetch your cases and luggage.

It may have ran for a few seconds until the system realizes there is no chip.

An auto locksmith can make you TWO keys and program them. NEVER ever only have one key. When you lose key 2, you replace it, so you still have two keys.

Did you check if the car you bought is stolen. All cars need a key.

Can vw jetta tdi mechanics key used incorrectly cause the car not to start?

If you mean the valet key, no. I use that key frequently in my 2001 TDI.
Only the ignition switch has a receiver to identify the chip in the key fobs but the valet key has the chip also.

Need to override factory keyless entry wont start

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

  • Everytime when you had a new key you must programm all available ignition car keys before trying to start the engine with this new key !!!

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

Use another ignition key that you have, and start the engine.

I did something potentially really stupid - drilled a hole through my key (to hang it because the clip busted) Now, the car will not start, I understand this to be the immobilizer. The car starts but...

You would have to replace the ECM at a minimum and most likely the ECM and the Ignition. You should still be able to get keys for the vehicle with the chip installed but you would have to get them from the dealer. The immobilzer, in order to be of any use, would have to be incorporated into the ECM unit.

Accidently damaged the ignition key.and now the car will start and the cut off,and the key code light flashes

If the key and the fob have separated, you should still be able to start the car by holding the fob near the ignition when you start the vehicle. This will allow your car to read the immobilizer code from the chip in your fob. You can do this temporarily until you can get a new key. Once the car starts, you can move the fob away - it only needs to be there while starting the car.
