I have 1988 chevy camaro v6 2.8 Alternator is
Does the charge lamp work? If not fix it. The alternator needs excite voltage or it won't work. In the past, worked on 80 Camaro, the generator wouldn't charge, no excite voltage. The charge lamp on the dash wouldn't work. I removed the dash enough to get at charge lamp bulb, it had vibrated loose in the socket, over time, pushed it back in, the lamp started working and the generator started charging. The L terminal at the gen should be excite voltage. At that time, I also tried to use jumper wire to get excite voltage to generator, it didn't work for me, either. I'm not sure battery voltage is proper? Those connections have to be real good.
The bat terminal on the generator, hot all the time, engine off, it should be. If not check that wiring circuit. Could be other issues.
Loose steering coluimn on 88 camaro
your steering column has a plate with 4 inverted torx fasteners I believe they are e8 fasteners, you must remove the upper tilt flange to gain access to these bolts , a few special tools will be needed : Pivot pin puller , steering wheel puller , lockplate depresser to name 3. the job takes about 1.5 hours to complete. hope this helps a little.
What could the problem be with a 1988 Chevrolet Camaro 2.6 V6 motor?
Hi Evie;
I would check the driver's side dash to see if the "check engine" light came on; if so rent an OBD-I reader (specific to GM cars) from your local auto parts store.
Once you retrieve the trouble code, go to the following website to interpret the code fault:
2008 Acura MDX Sensor Location
The title of the above link is misleading; it will bring you to the "GM OBD1 Codes Retrieval For Pre 1996 GM Vehicles" page. It is a single page reading, dedicated to the GM OBD-I DTCs; please read it first before attempting to pull the codes.
From there, you'll be able to get a general idea of where or what to look at, in the diagnostic/troubleshoot process, instead of the guess and try method.
For future reference, you should detail more information as to what led up to the problem; or what is actually happening; and what repairs were attempted to correct the problem...it'll certainly lower, if not take the guess factor out of the troubleshooting process.
If you need more help, there are plenty of assistants to help. :)

Put car in neutral, remove wheels, calipers and rotors, diff. cover. rotate carrier until you see wrist pin retaining bolt, remove bolt and slide out the wrist pin out of carrier. Next push axle inward to remove inner axle "C" retainer washer then slide axle out of tube. Then pry off axle seal and with slide hammer w/attachment remove axle bearing.

Check alternator,take off and take to Autozone,they will test for free,only takes a few minutes.Here's a
link on it.
