did you check spark by observing the wire or the plug? if the wire, replace the plug. replace it anyway. a bad plug may fire in free air but not in the engine

Does the valve when setting have to be up or downtiming

Check to make sure your main earth from the Neg side of battery is connected to the engine and NOT the FRAME.

clean the carb and check the float height

clean your carb.

Hey Anon, this is NOT something to "try and learn" how to do..find a professional that is will to tutor you when you do this for the first time! It COULD save you A LOT of $$$$!!!!!

If you have good spark then it's most likely a fuel issue, anything off of idle is dealing with the main jet and metering needle, clean jet and check needle for excessive wear.

Check the fuel flow through the tank valve. There are screens inside the tank that may be blocked and restricting flow.
