Just found the solution on this site under another question. Looks like you have to reassign the controller to slot 1. Mine was in slot 3 and the start button wouldn't work, pressed the PS button until the menu came up, went to controller options, and reassigned the controller to slot 1. Went back to the game and the start button worked fine.

Enter the exact code on the manual or CD case. Not that hard.

Usually if you register the game on it's offical website, and email them that you've lost the access code they will send you another. Hope this helps!

1. Restart your computer if you haven't yet done so.

. put your sims 2 cd into the computer
2. go into COMPUTER and the sims 2 will be there.
3. DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON IT.
4. click the sims 2 file with teh RIGHT BUTTON on your mouse.
5. click "OPEN"
6. another file will apear.
7. NOW can you see a file that says "CRACK" click on that file and open it.
8. another file will apear and it will have a folder in it. doesnt matter what it is open THAT folder.
9. for me their are 2 folders one that says sim 2 and the other "SERIAL NUMBER"
10. open the file that says "SERIAL NUMBER"
11. another file will pop out and that file should have your SIMS 2 SERIAL NUMBER aka KEY-GEN

This worked for me. For the sound effects to work you'll need to download SC (Starcraft) Sound Edit Utility. Open up the utility and then open up file Sfx.agg found on a standard installation here (hold the quotes) "C:\Program Files\Sonalysts Combat Simulations\688I\Sfx" Select all the sound files and extract them and you are done. the sound files may end up in the compatibility files.
