HP12c seems to not have enough room for numbers BEFORE the decimal point. I try to enter the number "85" and all that will show up is the 8.000000000

hi, the #'s after the decimal point are working just fine, able to switch using f key back and forth to 5 decimal places.

however, not able to enter more than 1 digit BEFORE the decimal place. thanks! Also if I hit enter it takes the display back to 0.

Initial Setup

One adjustment is important before we get started. By default the 12C displays only two decimal places. This is not enough. Personally, I like to see five decimal places, but you may prefer some other number. To change the display, press "F" and then the number of decimal places you wish to display. I would press "F 5 " to display 5 decimal places. That's it, the calculator is ready to go.
You need to hold the "F" key.---------

    1. Press and release the gold PREFIX key (f).
    2. Press the number key for the desired number of decimal places (0 through 9).
------------ Click this link below and follow the procedure:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/07/hp-12c-calculator-help.html ----------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Try to reset the calculator and see if that makes a difference:---

    -----------

After the reset is done, then try to enter the digits and see if that helps. Also try selecting.F and 0.This will give no decimal points.----------

    Check out.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

were you getting more digit to the left of decimal, when you got this calculator.---------
If yes, then did you changed any setting that caused the problem.---------------

Does not register decimal places at times

Some calculators, and spreadsheets, do not display decimals when your answer is a whole number, unless you specifically set it to a certain number of decimal places.

Good luck,

How to get rid of the two zeros on far right in hp12c?

Your calculator is set to scientific notation. To get out, press f followed by a digit representing the number of digits you want after the decimal point. To have two digits after the decimal point, for example, press f 2.

I have done something so the calculator is only displaying whole numbers and will not show anything after the decimal point. Thanks!

Hello
The floating point number display (FIX) is set to zero decimal digits. All your. numbers with decimal parts are rounded.
Look for a key that says [FIX]. Press it and enter a number say3 If I guessed right (Sharp makes numerous calculators) your numbers will show 3 decimal digits.

If there is no such key look for a [MODE] Button. Press the button. If you have a new screen with differents choices look for Format, Float,
On some older calculators there is a table below the display. At the left of the table one finds MODE--> or -->MODE
If it says there Mode DEG:4 that means to have angles in degrees you enter [MODE][4].

I think I exhausted all possibilities. Without you model number, I cannot do more.

Hope it helps.

Wrong format for numbers displayed in HP 12C

It's been awhile since I used one of these but there should be a decimal function on the keys. Make sure you put a 2 in there before pressing it and it should display the format using 200.00

I lost my decimal point

You need to be in add mode, and have 2 decimal places selected for the result.
To change to add mode, make sure the 'K . A' switch is in the 'A' position. To get 2 decimal places in the answer, move the selector in the 'F 6 3 2 1 0' switch to the '2' position.

You can see the above described at

this Sharp.com page which shows the users manual. The manual shows examples.
