I have a Kenmore Elite model 11021086000 washing machine. The past several weeks we've noticed two problems that I think are related: 1) clothes, whites especially, come out with brown streaks and marks that look like grease and 2) we are seeing, with increasing frequency, clothes get caught between the washplate and the basket. It looks like maybe the seal around the edge of the washplate is worn out and needs to be replaced. Anybody else seen these problems or know how to fix them?

SOURCE: grease spots and stains

Yes you can. Remember a front loader has no gearbox so no oil is coming from there? fabric conditioner, washing powder, and oils from our bodys can build up on the tub walls. All it needs is a good flush out. You can use dishwashing powder. Run it through with no clothes in you washing machine on a hot wash or a wash and hold a couple of times to flush it out. NZL

SOURCE: front loader washing machine = black streaks on clothing

I am a recently retired engineer of 20 years once you have ruled out anything getting inside the machine by accident etc, like something in pockets or greasy overalls, then its likely to be the drum bearings, has the machine started to get noisy on the spin the drum bearings are covered by a rubber seal, this seal gets damaged or worn and water leaks into the bearings themselves washing out the grease back into the drum where the washing is, you could also notice slight water marks on the floor underneath the machine on the floor, take the back off and look for water marks coming from the drum outer casing behind the pulley, these marks will be brown and will originate from a small drain hole, if any of the above change the bearings before any real damage is done, either to the clothes or the machine, as repair can be expensive? sorry, hope i have helped you as to where to look at least,

SOURCE: I am getting stains on my dark clothes that look like oil stains.

Check that the dispenser is clean, it may be gunged up with black gunge, use soda crystals and put machine on hottest wash. If all is clean it could be down to seal gone in drum letting grease into system. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series washer leaves brown grease marks

Remove the agitator and check the shaft seal underneath the plastic drive block at the top of the shaft. Move the shaft in different directions to check the condition of the top bearing. If none or very slight, replace the seal at the top of the shaft supporting post. Clean any grease that is outside of the seal when you are done. Be sure to not damage the seal surface on the shaft when removing/replacing the seal and pre-grease the new seal's inner lip before installing.

SOURCE: i have a necklace chain

Remove the fabric softener on top of agitator and plastic insert. Use socket wrench to remove hex bolt and lift top half and then bottom half of agitator which should then expose chain.

Kenmore (11020722990) spinning slowly

If the coupling was broken, the machine would make a horrible noise. The way to check the pump is to remove it and take the lines off to verify any kind of obstruction. Now, chances are that the motor, a variable speed device with a capacitor, has more than likely started to go back, but the way to check this is to take the motor off, bypass the lid switch with a jumper wire(from one wire to another, just not the green) and plug the machine in and turn it on and see if it engages without a load on it.

It appears your timer/main controller has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.
