1. Fuel tank dip tube (fuel filter) to siphon side of primer bulb
2. Primer output to carb in.
3. Fuel return to tank.
Likely you have reversed the primed bulb lines. Disconnect the line from the primer bulb to the carb. If you have the correct connection from the tank to the primer bulb, fuel will spurt out the bulb as you press the bulb
If no fuel, move the line at the primer bulb to the other primer connection. Press primer bulb a few times and fuel should spurt out bulb.
If still no fuel then a problem with the fuel tank dip tube or plugged filter
Hi Norman:
I'd check the routing of the fuel lines.
Tank to carb (this is the line with the filter on it)
carb to bulb (suction side)
bulb to tank (return line)
If the connections appear correct but it does not pull gas, check the filter to make sure it is clean, and you can try reversing the connections on the bulb.
Hope this helps.
Slightly unscrew the gas cap and see it the problem goes away. Many times the Gas tank Vent clogs and this will cause the engine to create a vacuum in the gas tank until the engine can't draw in the gas .
It sounds like you have a air line busted somewhere i had one of my outboards do that it wouldnt prime for anything so i ran everything down checked the fuel pump and cleaned that out tore apart the carbs cleaned them bought brand new fuel hose still scratching my head i took off the air lines for the carbs and put new ones worked like a champ
Try replacing the float and needle. The float (floats) and pulls the needle up to let gas through to the carb. It will stay running as long as you press the prime bulb because this sends gas straight to the carb without going through the gas bowl. It's best to remove the carb and clean it then replace the float and needle
Take the fuel bowl off the carb and check the metering valve to make sure it opens and closes sounds like its closed not allowing fuel through the carb. Its a quick easy and very cheap fix....
Well if the unit has fuel than it should prime unless the primer bulb is damaged and unable to force air/gas through the line. This is definetly a fuel issue, I would remove both the line from the tank to the carb and carb to engine and clean them thoroughly.
When you press the bulb the carb should shoot gas from the unit when disconnected. If this isn't happening your clog is here. If it does eject gasoline than your clog is the clear line which sometimes collects sediment if the gas is poluted.
