Freezers only buils up layers of ice after multiple opebing and closing of doors allows fresh air inside, the moisture then freezes out of the air and builds up in layers on the cold surfaces. Note that the more ice that builds up decreases the efectivness of the freezr and thus costs more to run. To test try making ice cubes in atray. the unit is loosing the freon supply to the evaporator.you either have a leakage,a blockage or the compressor is not pumping to full capacity.

compressor may be the problem,by pass the thermostate connections & chelk cooling replace if working.some sort of leakage may also be the problem.

also check defrost timer,defrost thermostat. In
most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.
