Unit was nat gas i changed orifice and tried to light but when i realease pilot button after a minute pilot goes out. does the regulator need to be changed to a propane type?...i just bought unit so not sure if valve is good

orifice sizes will increase since goin from lp to nat gas.......to convert appliances you will need diff gas valves, nat gas and propane will have diff pressures
Is the button on the gas valve or a red button in the line to the pilot assembly? If its in the line, there is a regulator upstream of the button. If the gas is coming from the gas valve, there is a small screw covered hole in line with the pilot line in the gas valve. If neither of these apply, you may need to replace the orifice in the pilot assembly. Let me know how it goes.
Unit goes under sure heat name also. My unit emitted unburnt gas smell the minute pilot started, and was annoying during burner operation. I discovered they built unit with primary pilot that had 2 ports. They used LP and sealed off natural gas, instead turning lp/nat knob on back activates second pilot for natural gas use. This means natural gas goes thru LP pilot orifice and burns slightly off during normal natural gas use(by design). The unused natural gas orifice has 1 air mix hole and the LP orifice has 2 air mix holes. I carefully plugged 1 of the holes in the LP orifice and suddenly pilot gas flame seated correctly on orifice port.Gone was the unburnt odor of natural gas. The typical flame in a flame appearance now was exhibited by the small pilot, secondary pilot remained consistent with manual picture. Of course, to use with LP I would have to open blocked air mix hole in addition to the other changes per manual. Hope this helps someone with similar condition.
Hi there! You need to order a gas valve conversion kit (from nat to propane), propane pilot orifice and propane burner orifice, Gas valve conversion kit consists of a replacement spring thicker than of natural gas valve spring, gas valve cap and a sticker. Pilot orifice for propane has smaller bore than of natural. Burner orifice for propane has also smaller bore than of natural burner orifice (one for each burner). You will be able to find these parts on the list of Pitco Distributor when you visit http://www.pitco.com Regards.
To convert these to LP you must downsize the burner orifices and the pilot orifice. Also you must change the regulator on the gas valve to LP. Easy job.
Make sure the thermocouple is squarely in the pilot flame and that the pilot flame is large enough to envelop the thermocouple. A weak pilot can be caused by gas pressure or a carboned-up pilot orifice (where the gas comes out). The orifice may need to be cleaned. Ordinary automotive carburetor cleaner will work. Don't try to stick objects into the orifice - damage may result. If you need to perform this step, make sure the gas is turned off to the heater first.
Make sure the other end of the thermocouple is clean and tight in the gas valve.
Hold the pilot plunger down for at least a minute to be sure to give the thermocouple enough time to heat up.
Change out the thermocouple, this will take care of the pilot problem. Very easy to take out and change. This is what keeps the pilot on and when it fails, no pilot. Sincerely, Shastalaker7
1.You will need to change the pilot orifice and the burner orifices
2. You may need to change the gas control valve. Some gas control valves are made for natural gas and some are made for LP. They have regulators built-in, that deliver the correct pressure respectively. Natural gas is 3.5 inches of water column, LP is 10 inches of water column. Some manufacturers sell kits to change the spring in the regulator from Nat to LP You would need a parts breakdown on the specific model number of your fryer to find the parts you need. Hope this helps.
is the pressure regulator right for the type of gas your using...? i had the same problem.i found out that my regulator was for both lp and nat.gas.i also found out there is a small nylon pin underneath the brass cap on top of the regulator.i unscrewed the cap and the fitting was set for lp.and i was using nat. gas.i just pulled the nylon pin out, flipped it around and replaced the cap...works fine now.if your regulator is like mine the nylon pin is maked LP on one end and NAT. on the other.might be worth a try
