The FX-115ES is somewhat different to other calculators you might know. The sequence of keys is more like writing up a calculation in a textbook, whereas for "normal" calculators operations are reversed in some places.
For example, with most calculators you would type 30 [sin] to calculate the sine function of 30 degrees, with the 115ES its [sin] 30 [=].

The 115ES has all the standard trigonometric functions:

  • Standard functions (sin, cos, tan), type the [sin], [cos] or [tan] key followed by the argument.
  • Inverse trigonometric (sin?¹, cos?¹, tan?¹), type [SHIFT][sin], [SHIFT][cos] or [SHIFT][tan] followed by the argument.
  • Hyperbolic functions (sinh, cosh, tanh), type [HYP][sin], [HYP][cos], or [HYP][tan] followed by the argument.
  • and finally inverse hyperbolic (sinh?¹, cosh?¹, tanh?¹), its [SHIFT][HYP][sin], [SHIFT][HYP][cos], or [SHIFT][HYP][tan] followed by the argument.
Arguments can be given as numbers with mantissa (2.718), as fractions (use the fraction key below [CALC]) or as degree, minute, second (30°12'45") using the [°'"] key for input. To switch between degrees (1 circle = 360°), radians (1 circle = 2?), or grad (1 circle = 400 gon), use [SHIFT][DRG>].

    I just notice, the Fixya text editor changed my superscript "-" characters input to "?", so sin?¹ is actually meant as sin-¹, with the "-" rasied to the level of the "1".

    Sigh. the same happened to the greek letter pi in the last row. Also came out as "?"... sorry for that.

The trigonometric function evaluations depend on the angle unit you are using: degree, radian, grad
While cos(90 deg)= 0,
cos(90 rad )=cos(90* 180/pi degrees)= -.448073616

ALWAYS CHECK UNITS before using trigonometric functions or their inverse functions.

How to do inverse of tan cos sin

The inverse trigonometric function share each the same physical key with its direct function. The inverse trigonometric functions are accessed with the [SHIFT] key
[SHIFT] [SIN] accesses the arcsine
[SHIFT][COS] accesses the arccosine
and [SHIFT][TAN] the arctangent.

How do you find arc sin on this calculator

Hi,
Before using the inverse trigonometric functions, make sure your calculator has the right unit as angle unit. The unit of the values returned by the inverse trigonometric functions is the same as the default angle unit. This being said, you access the arcsine function by pressing 2nd sin^-1

I have a SHARP EL-501W calculator and i am getting the wrong answers with the tan -1 function

Hi,
The source of errors is most certainly due to the wrong schoice of angle unit (degree or radian). If the default angle unit set in your calculator is the degree, any value fed to the trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan) is considered to be expressed in degrees. Consequently, if you calculate the arctangent ( tan^-1) of a value, the angle returend by that inverse trigonometric function is expressed implicitly in degrees.

Similarly if radian is the default angle unit in your calculator, any angle returned by an inverse trigonometric function (arcos, arcsin, arctan) is in radian.

Set the default angle unit as the one required by your problem at hand. This way, the angles returned will be in the right unit and you will not have a problem of interpretation.

I am getting the wrong answers with the tan -1 function

Hello,
That habit of TI, Casio, and Sharp to label the inverse trigonometric functions with the -1 superscript can cause confusions.
  1. The inverse trigonometric functions arcosine, arcsine, and arctangent (labeled by manufacturers as cos^-1, sin^-1, and tan^-1) should not be confused with the other trigonometric functions known as secant(x) =1/cos(x), cosecant(x)=1/sin(x) and cotangent(x) = 1/tan(x).
  2. To avoid errors in the use of the inverse trigonometric functions, one must be careful and set the angle unit to the one required by the problem at hand (degrees, or radians)
  3. To make the trigonometric functions really functions, their range is restricted.
  4. In this calculator arcosine (x) gives results between 0 and 180 degrees (if angle MODE is Degree) or between 0 and Pi radians (if angle MODE is Radian).
  5. The range of results for arcsine(x) and arctangent(x) is between -90 degrees and +90 degrees (if angle MODE Degree) or -Pi/2 and Pi/2 (if angle MODE is Radian)
With this information you should be able to set the angle unit correctly ([MODE][Radian] or [MODE][Degree] ) and interpret the results. If you want to extend the angle to other values, use the periodicity of the trigonometric functions.

How do you do arcsin on the TI-34II?

  1. Pressing [2nd] and [TRIG] displays a menu of all available trigonometric functions.
  2. The arcsine is represented as menu item [SIN^-1].
  3. Select the function from the menu, enter the value and press [=].
  4. A word of caution:
  • Before you calculate any inverse trigonometric function value, make sure the angle unit is correct. (Degree or radian).

Hello,
Yes it does. All scientific calculators do logs, power, roots, exponential, trigonometric functions. Most do also hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic functions.

I cannot figure out how to do a problem with arc on my ti-83

Sorry but you are not been very clear.
Are you doing some kind of geometry or trying to use the inverse trigonometric functions such as arccos, arcsin, arctan?

If you are doing geometry you should specify what application you are using.

If it concerns the trigonometric functions, on the TI83/TI83Plus these functions are represented as cos^-1, sin^-1, tan^-1.
To access them you press the 2nd (orange/yellow) then cos, sin or tan.

A word of caution:When using any trigonometric function make sure your calculator is configured with the correct angle unit ( degree or radian) your problem calls for.

Problem with Casio FX 260 Calculator

Read the screen capture about the MODES of this calculators. DEG,RAD, and GRAD remind the user that the angle units in trigonometric function calculations and coordinate conversions are in degrees, radians or grads. They have nothing to do with the other calculations you are doing.

You can only remove DEG by changing the angle unit to RADians or GRADs. In so doing, the new unit indicator (RAD, GRAD) will be displayed instead. There is no point worrying about the angle unit indicator unless you are performing coordinate conversions or calculating trigonometric functions or the inverse trigonometric functions.

MODE 9 cancels the FIX display format: decimal are displayed with a fixed number of decimal places (set by the user). After this key sequence the decimal display format reverts to NORM(al).
