Hi obx4ever, If this helps, the CCD was a problem I had in a lot of those camcorders and only replacement cured the problem. Only a sony authorized service centre will be able to replace the CCD for you. The CCD is a closed coupled device which generates the image that you see in the eyepiece and LCD screen when in picture mode. Michael.
Hi, If camcorder does not show live view in camera mode then most probably its ccd imager chip failure problem that part need to be replaced to get live image in lcd/ view finder to get it record on tape. Let me know exact model number of your camcorder to provide you more info. Thanks.
If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.
Let me know your finding with bit detail to provide you solution/ helpful info.
To my understanding that you do not see live view in camera mode to record and camcorder playback old recorded tapes correctly and you get picture in LCD. If it is true then please check lens cover that need to be slide down to get live view in camera mode. If problem still exist then 2 possibilities, either aperture in lens mechanism is bad or ccd imager is defective. In that problem, camcorder needs qualified tech to fix it. Let me know any further query.
Assume you have Sony DCR-HC20 camcorder and it does not show you live view to record, I hope camcorder is playing back old recorded tapes perfectly with good quality picture on its LCD. If it is true then your camcorder has ccd imager chip failure and ccd imager needs to be replace to get live view in LCD monitor. Qualified camera tech will replace ccd imager chip. Thanks.
Based on the information you have provided, it appears that you may have encountered this issue. To determine if the CCD (image sensor) is working properly, please follow these steps:
1. Insert a memory card with known good images on it into the camera.
2. Power the camera on to the Playback mode.
3. Press the DISPLAY (DISP) button to enable the LCD panel, and observe the LCD.
a. If the images are displayed properly, please proceed to step four.
b. If the images are not displayed, or a "NO IMAGES" message appears, please ensure that the memory card contains known good images.
c. If the card contains known good images, and the issue persists with a second memory card, the camera will require service.
4. Switch the camera to the Camera mode. You may use any shooting mode (i.e. Auto, Manual).
5. Press the DISPLAY (DISP) button to enable the LCD panel.
6. Point the camera at a well-lit scene and observe the LCD and/or viewfinder. If the scene the camera is pointed at appears on the LCD and/or viewfinder, the CCD is operating properly. If the LCD and/or viewfinder remain black, the camera requires service

*************there will be rough stretched shapes occassionally. But mostly it looks like a black screen with flickers of white lines. If I record like this the image comes out exactly as seen***
