Turn the power off and on again displayed

My sony dsc t-3 is displaying the message turn the power off and on again. I can view recently taken pictures, but cannot get to the picture taking screen. please help, i repaired the lcd screen last year. thanks. Just recently, I've discovered the "turn power on and off again" problem. The only thing my camera was capable of doing was reviewing stored pictures but it wasn't able to take any because when I'd turn my camera on, the lens would open a few times but it'd always end up closing. I've read many of the methods on this site on how to fix that problem and the one that was most efficient for me was whacking the sides against the palm of my hand! It really does work. I was hesitant at first because I thought it'd damage my camera more, but it didn't! It's a sure method! Good luck to all who try.

Well, I can not really believe it, but I had the exact same problem as you and that idea ACTUALLY worked. Smacking the sides against the palm of your hand does seem to work quite well. Thanks!

Hi,
This is lens mechanism problem and lens assembly will be replaced to fix the issue.
Lens tries to correct its mechanical error three times then gives up and you see turn power off and on again display in lcd. If camera is under warranty, please call Sony to get it fixed or take camera to local camera repair shop if its out of warranty.
Thanks.

Problem with sony cyber shot dsc- w80

I jeremy- i was having the exact same problem today. I phoned Sony repair, who then had me take out the battery and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds..reinsert the battery and power up. Didn't fix it. I came home and read some posts on here. I ended up trying the gently twist the lens as it was zooming in and out..I twisted a little and pulled a little. About the third time, it worked. (I also held the power button down with the battery in, just to try..maybe that helped, too). Sony wants flat fee of $91 to fix..is that what they told you?

Turn the power off and on again displayed

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

On my sony dsc-g1 camera when i turn it on it has a saying across the viewing screen that says album data error and i need to know how to get that off.

This worked for me on my Sony Cyber Shot dsc-g1. I would suggest connecting your camera to your PC and downloading your photos first. They are still on your camera - even if you can't view the album.

1. Press the HOME button and select Media Tools from the menu.

2. Select General -> Check Album

3. Select OK in the Check Album menu.

4. The Recovery data... message will be displayed.

Note: Depending on the circumstances, restoring the album data may or may not be possible .

5. Once the recovery process is completed. The menu will return to Check Album.

6. Turn the camera power off and then turn it on again. If the error message still persists, please approach the local service center for assistance.

This is a hardware problem. Your simptons is tipical of a lens position sensor being faulty.

There is however nothing you can do yourself. Contact your nearest Sony dealer and take the camera to a Sony service centre.

They will quote you for a new lens assembly as they will not be able to replace the sensor only.

Cost should be about 1/2 of what you paid for the camera.

Good luck.
