Machine will not turn on - Microwave Ovens

I think I can tell you why, but there may be no good fix.
The carousel is turned by a motor inside the right side of the machine, and that motor is hidden.
It often turns a wheel, and on the wheel is a rubber /plastic belt, that turns a wheel on the bottom of the plastic spider that holds your glass plate.
The belt gets worn out or old, and slips.
I seriously doubt you can get a replacement belt, unless you have ready access to a large assortment of various sizes of o-rings.
Then, you will need someone to replace it.
Many of these machines are really not repairable.

there is a micro switch that signals when the door is closed. this tells the machine that it's okay to start the turntable and heating process.. if the micro switch breaks or shorts out then the switch does not send the signal so the machine does not work.

Aha, I see.

Well, there are only 2 likely issues here. Either the inlet valve is faulty (Jammed open), or the controller module is faulty. However, If you haven't already, before you do anything else, unplug the machine from the mains for 30 minutes. There is a small possibility that this will reset a faulty program or setting and all will be OK. Unlikely, but worth a 30 minute wait. Expect this to fail, but it's worth a shot. Presuming it fails move on to the instructions below:

To test the inlet valve, you are may have to pull a wire off one of the terminals and see if that causes it to shut down. In case you're not sure the hose on the back of the dishwasher screws onto a fitting and that fitting is part of the inlet valve assembly, so you need to get to the back of the fitting so you can see the valve (This should be pretty easy and a case of just removing a few cover screws or, more lokely the top of the discwasher).

I'm presuming that you currently have the water turned off, so do the following.

ALL POWER OFF AND UNPLUGGED FIRST
TEST 1 is simply turn on the water with the machine unplugged. If water starts entering the machine when it's unplugged, then the valve is clearly jammed open and needs replacing (You just MAY manage to find some debris jamming it open and clean them out, but its a little unlikely and you will probably need to replace the nvalve. It's a pretty easy job as you will be able to see once you have it explosed with the top off the machine)

TEST 2
Where test 1 has shown that with power off, no water enters the machine, let's test to confirm that the controller is opening the valve at the wrong time:
Ensure that the water is now turned ON but that the machine is
POWERED OFF AND UNPLUGGED
Gain access to the valve as discussed
remove one of the 2 wires that run to the valve
Plug the machine back into the wall. Does water start to run through the valve? (This should not be possibl if it passed test 1)
Turn the machine on at the front panel. Does Water start to run through the valve? (This should ALSO be impossible if it passed test 1)
POWER OFF AND UNPLUG AGAIN
Replace the wire on the valve that you removed
Power on at the mains agian and repeat the above tests. You should expect that water will start to run into the machine again, demonstrating that the controller board is faulty. There is a tiny chance that the unplug/power off and disconnect procedure may have reset a problematic valve or controller module, in which case, count yourself very lucky. It's more likely if you have reached this stage and you still have water flooding in taht you have just proved you need a new controller module.

Your question was head "microwave ovens" but I think you are talking about a washing machine.

Replacing the motor is a matter of judgement as to the reliability of the machine generally.

If this is the first time the machine has failed in 6 years, then I would have the motor replaced.

If there have been a series of faults, then replace then machine.

(Incidentally I assume that you checked the drive belt).

Try Unplugging it for an hour. That should reset it.

Test your door safety interlock switches. If you are like me, you 'turn it off' by opening the door. This causes arcing at the little contact in these micro switches. Eventually, the contacts inside burn up and cannot make contact. If they cannot make contact, the machine doesn't know if the door is open or closed.

Unplug the machine - do not touch the silver thing inside - potentially lethal! - check with a volt-ohm meter. The switch should read "open" when the door is open and "closed" when the door is closed. If it reads open when the door is closed, the microwave doesn't know the door is closed so it will not turn on the magnatron.

Yes, everything else will work except the magnatron if this $10.00 switch is broken. Buy a replacement at a electronic parts or appliance place. Be ready to give make and model of your machine.

First, do not leave this machine plugged in until it is serviced. If this is a KHMS155LSS, there is a very high probability that you have a keypad short. This defect can cause the machine to start on its own at ANYTIME, at night, while you are away, at work etc. Contact Whirlpool Customer Service and ask for Safety Dept immediately. They will most likely send A&E out to fix it. Although it will fix the problem, if the keypad fails again, the self start logic defect is still present. You should be under warranty if it is above model. I almost had a fire this past Monday, Labor Day, 9/7/09 when my machine self started at 3 AM with a package of bacon left in to thaw for the morning. What a somey mess. Chinese made garbage.
