I have a womens Columbia watch that is also water resistance to 65 meters. The battery has gone dead and I would like to replace it. Most watches have a groove to pry the cap off. This watch does not have that. Must the cap be turned and by a special tool or can you give me an idea on how to this. I did not want to scratch or ruin the watch. Thanks Traudl Renner

Mcdevito75 here, Hello Traudl, I see what you mean by not seeing or haveing that little tab on the back cover to pry off the back. I'm not an expert but do know a little about watches. Look again for this tab on the back cover, use a magnifier glass available at all Dollar stores to see this tab. Of course you may be right and there isn"t a tab, in that case look carefully between the back cover and the case of the watch for a cutout, it should be somewhere between the back cover and cvase of the watch, it"s very easy to miss this is why I suggest the magnifier glass. If by chance the back cover has square holes going around it"s circumference, then you would need a special tool to unscrew this back cover, I don"t think so though. If all this fails then your best bet is to look for a small watch repair shop in your area for a new battery. Hope I've helped.

Is it safe to swim with watch

Your watch is water resistant to 50 metres. There should be a wave symbol etched in to the back of the case.

WARNING: TO MAINTAIN WATER-RESISTANCE, DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTONS OR PULL OUT THE CROWN UNDER WATER UNLESS YOUR WATCH IS INDICATED AS 200 METER WATERRESISTANT.

I bought my relic watch last year around christmas time it claims on the back of my watch it is water resistant up to 165 meters i haven't even gone close to that depth for the past 3 months or so my...

The most common failure of a watch to be water resistant is caused by a faulty contact between the case at an opening around the glass, crown, or pushbutton and the opening's gasket. Worn or defective rubber O-rings are often a cause of failure. Condensation forming under the crystal of a watch following a sharp temperature change (a swim after a stretch in the sun, for example) tells you to have the watch checked without delay. This can be an indication of additional moisture elsewhere inside the case. It is also the only water-tightness check a consumer can perform.
Of course non-water-resistant watches don't contain the additional seals and gaskets found on water-resistant models. Consequently, moisture-laden air can easily enter the case. Once inside, a pronounced change in temperature may cause condensation to form under the crystal. Very little can be done to prevent this. A high-quality water-resistant watch, however, properly serviced and maintained, will be sealed to prevent internal water damage and will more than outlast an ordinary watch.
To keep the watch properly sealed, replace any defective parts , such as gaskets, crystals, and crowns. Water-resistant watches should be tested for case tightness at least once a year, as well as every time the watch is opened, such as when a battery is replaced.

I can't open the back of my columbia sportsware CL-7017330 feet water resistance watch. I need to change the battery.

To be honest, I would send back to Columbia. Water resistant watches are not only tricky, but you risk losing the warranty on your watch as well.
I would go to link and follow instructions:

How water resistent is watch??? Anyone with experience?? How about after battery replacement?

mcdevito 75 here, Usually 50--100 meters of water resistance on brand new watches. However after a battery change, unless you also change the gasket (rubber ring) on the cover, you could loose all water resistance capability.

My watch is 8 months old and just stopped..the screen still displays the exact time and date that it died..but because it's digital if it was the battery the screen should have gone blank?!!

Best bet is to start by replacing the battery. At 8 months it'll be due for one soon anyway and a new battery may "reboot" it so it runs again. As a battery wears out it doesn't just stop, it may still maintain the display even though it stops keeping time. Also, new "e-ink" displays require no power to maintain the display 0 only to change it.

Can't get my croton watch to work.

There are a few possible reasons why your watch is not working:
  1. The battery is dead (sometimes even new watches have a dead battery in them).
  2. The plastic piece between the crown and the watch case was not removed (this protects the battery from wearing down until you receive the watch).
  3. You bought a watch with a damaged movement and it just will not work period so you may have to return it, exchange it, or have it repaired
These are the 3 reasons why your watch could not be working. The reason will fall into one of these 3 categories, so I hope this helps!
