I have a EM5000SX. My problem is my generator will not start unless I turn the fuel selector to off. Then crank it until it does start, turn the fuel back on. Run's normal . I run this generator for my cabin every weekend.

on the bottom of the tank were the fuel line goes to the tank, it may be a round knob u turn, I have problems starting mine after setting a while so I choke it and pull the cord, if it has set for a long time, you may need to pull the spark plug and put a drop or 2 of gas in the cyilinder, reinstall the plug andwire and it should start.

have you had the generator stored with fuel in the carburettor since its last use if so the fuel goes bad and blocks up the main jet, remove the float bowl and clean out all the residue you can clean out the main jet with a suitable piece of wire

It amazes me that the supposed repair people don't realize you're talking about a stand alone machine. They keep talking about augurs and freezers which, of course, a stand alone does not have but a fridge does!
I have the same problem but my stand alone is on a houseboat which has us turning power from generator to shore power etc, that's when it seems to go to cleaning cycle. It seems to be related to power going on and off.

Your remote start wires going into your transfer switch are closed, which means you transfer switch is the problem.
