My TI 89 won't turn on after I replaced the AAA batteries
Try a hard reset if you're willing to sacrifice the contents of all RAM.
1. Make sure the batteries are installed correctly.
2. Press and hold the 2nd, Left, and Right keys.
3. Press and release the On key.
Mine would not turn on and I tried all the suggestions above. I took it apart and found that there are springs that come off the battery connections that have a bend in them that touches copper pads on the mainboard. The little bend in them had worn through the copper pad (you could see where) and were not making contact. I just bent them a little so that they touched the copper pad in a different spot and it fixed the problem. My TI-89 is 18 years old and I guess all the years of vibration from giggling around caused this to happen. Glad to have it working again. hope this helps.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on at all. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the diamond key, then press the + key repeatedly to see whether the screen darkens.
If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we can try other things, though they may cause the loss of the contents of memory.

I took my TI-89 apart and found that some parts of the copper connections to the batteries eroded away. I tweaked it so that that the batteries were connected to the circuit board and it could turn on.
