My Garmin Nuvi 650 is in excellent condition but the touch screen randomly stopped working while in use. It didn't work for a few hours but then started working again after powering back on. The unit worked for another few weeks and randomly froze and the touch screen went out again. I reset the unit and tried to recalibrate (wouldn't recognize touch) but still didn't work. A week went by before I plugged it in again and it worked perfect for about 30 minutes. Now it will not work at all. Any ideas how it happened and what I could do to fix it?

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 300 or 600 series:
Power the unit On.
From the Where to? / View map screen, touch Settings (wrench icon).
Touch Display.
Touch Recalibrate.
A new screen will display that says PressDot.
Touch the center of the dot.
Keep touching the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.
If your touchscreen is not responding to any touch and preventing you from recalibrating the touchscreen using the instructions above, please follow the steps below:

Safely disconnect your nuvi from your computer.

Continue holding the power button down for 1-2 minutes until the screen calibration option displays.
Touch the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated and should respond properly.
This is Garmin's response to me after having the same problem on a 2 year old Nuvi 650:We are no longer replacing or repairing this model unit. However, let me give you some steps to try to calibrate the screen of your unit. The following 'Fix' did not work. I won't be buying another Garmin. To recalibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 600 series device please follow the steps below:
Plug the device into the computer via USB data cable
Double click My Computer (Mac Users can skip this step)
Double Click the Garmin or nuvi drive
Double click the Garmin folder
Delete the GUPDATE.GCD file (if this file is not on the device please skip to the next step)
Unplug the GPS device from the computer
Power the device off
Press and hold the Power button
After a short period a screen should appear that says Touch Dot
Release the Power button
Touch the dots as they move around the screen.
Your touchscreen should now be recalibrated.
If the screen is still not responding, then the unit will need to be replaced with a new unit at this time.

My Garmin Nuvi 650 would boot up and load maps, but I could not enter my access code. Screen would not respond. Turned off & on a number of times, but still same problem. This occurred on first use after upgrading the maps. Thinking it may have overheated on the dashboard of my truck, I held the device in front of the air conditioner vent for about five minutes to cool it down. When I then turned it on, it worked fine. For the rest of my 3-week vacation, I kept it cool & out of the sun when it was not turned on. No problems after that.
In 90% of the cases it's the digitizer (the touch sensor that is mounted in front of the screen). You can try to replace it yourself or send it to a third party gps repair service.
